Woodward Dream Cruise

I woke up without a voice the morning of the Woodward Dream Cruise.  Even though I felt awful I really wanted to go see Jake in action.  He had to work the 2015 Mustang display for several hours.  Kind of a bummer for the girls but we got amazing reserved parking and access to a air conditioned lunch and (more importantly) bathroom.

Woodward Dream Cruise

What is the Woodward Dream Cruise?  The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts over 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles.  The Woodward Dream Cruise takes place each year on the third Saturday in August.
Where is the Woodward Dream Cruise held?  The Dream Cruise takes place along a 16-mile stretch on the historical  Woodward Avenue through nine host communities including Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak, in Southeast Michigan.
Why is the Woodward Dream Cruise held?  The Dream Cruise started as a fundraiser for a soccer field in Ferndale in 1995. In just a few short years, it has evolved into the world’s largest one-day automotive event. Spectators and cruisers travel to Metro Detroit, the birthplace of the American automobile, to demonstrate and participate in an event that celebrates an ongoing love affair with the automobile.
The view from our parking space:

Scarlett watching the "cruise" (any one can drive on the road - not just nice cars):

Jake working the 2015 Mustang display.  They had one of the cars on its side so people could see the new independent rear suspension.  Jake's job was to make sure no one touched the car and he was there to answer questions.  Can you find Jake in each photo?

The girls and I walked up and down Mustang Alley for a few hours.  We found a back alley ATM, then we bought popsicles, popcorn and a lemonade.  The drink ended up all over the side walk within seconds of paying for it.  The people around me where so nice.  This lady came up and helped me (hold my bag of popcorn keep Scarlett close - it was a busy area) and the vendor gave me a refill.  People really were kind.  The police station let us use their bathroom (it was a toddler potty emergency).  Of course our bright yellow stroller and long train of little people sticks out in a crowd.  I made Scarlett put the diaper bag handle around her waist just so no one could snatch her when we were in the big crowds.

Eating our popcorn and lemonade.  The babies even slept for an hour!

Oh, the Dream Cruise. I'm proud to say I've driven in it. I fantasize every year about flying out just for the weekend to breathe in the fumes and hear the engines, but that's always a tough week at work, and it just never happens. Sigh...

I thought you were announcing a well deserved vacation. But I guess walking around with three toddlers in the heat is just as fun
