Green Smoothies and the Magic Bullet

I've really struggled with finding a nutritional breakfast that I enjoy eating each morning.  But several friends recently suggested I go green... smoothies, that is.  So I decided to test it - and I LOVE them!  They taste great, I feel full, and I notice that I don't get that gross sugar feeling like when I eat cereal.

So this is how I "whip up the magic" (quote from Ted, What Not to Wear)

All the ingredients (spinach, kale, parsley, apple, orange, banana, flax seed, ice, & water).

Mix the greens first.  I put the ice in the cup first, that way when the magic bullet it blending I can shake it up and down and the ice hits the greens toward the blade (otherwise sometimes they get stuck and don't move).

After the greens are blended I add the fruit.  I end up using 1/2 an apple, 1/2 and orange and 1/2 a banana in one shake.  If the banana is ripe I don't have to add any other sweetener to make it tasty.

All mixed up and ready to eat! (the magic bullet grinds up everything pretty well, it's like drinking orange juice with the pulp).

Scarlett loves eating (and playing with) it!

Jacob also noticed that KSL just posted an article about green smoothies - great minds think alike!

KSL just posted an article? I've been making these for years. I don't follow a specific recipe though. I just throw in whatever fruit is laying around and needs to be used and top it all off with spinach. I made one the other day using plain yogurt, an apple, and orange, pineapple, flax seed, spinach and frozen blueberries. So good!

If you use frozen bananas or blueberries, you don't have to use ice. My kids like the blueberries because they almost cancel out green color, so it looks more appetizing too.

Keep up the good work my fellow great mind! ;o)

P.S. I had to laugh at the verification word: epi- Reminded me of epi-pen, which reminds me of you!

My friend does these all the time and I've resisted. Guess I'll give it a try . How much greens do you use for 2. All the fruit sounds good. If you have any more tips post them please
