Radio Flyer

For Scarlett's birthday my parents surprised us with a new, old toy: a wood Radio Flyer.  I loved that thing!  I got it for my 2nd Christmas.  It got used sooo much growing up!  We would ride it outside, do tricks, James even perfected his power slide move around the kitchen counters!  It was pretty beat up.  So my parents decided to fix it up for Scarlett.

They sanded and refinished the wood, repaired and repainted the plastic, found new wheels, made spacers for the axles, found new grips with tassels, etc...  It's beautiful!!!!!!!  Scarlett hasn't quite mastered how to ride it yet, but she's been using it as a walker around our living room.

Here's a side by side of me at 18 months and Scarlett at 12 months:

When Scarlett sat on it for the first time she surveyed all the components to see how they worked.  She touched all the screws and studied the wheels.  She did the same thing when her other grandparents gave her a jack-in-the-box for Christmas!  Were are so proud of our little enginerd!

Before - pretty beat up:

After - so shiny and new:

I'm excited for her to make happy memories on this AWESOME bike like I did.  Thanks Mom and Dad!!!!!!!!!!!

PS - I know you are wondering... yes, I can still fit on it.... barely!

Happy Pi(e) Day!

Happy Pi(e) Day!  For more info on this Enginerdy holiday check my old blog post here!
March 14th = 3/14 = 3.14 = pi!

Seriously... this blows my mind!  What are the chances?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
A product of two engineers:

We were worried when Scarlett was born on March 9 - it being so close to Pi(e) Day.  But Jake and I have decided we will make sure her birthday doesn't get overshadowed by the holiday season.  *nerd snort laugh*
Pie Time: 3/14 1:59 PM & 26.535897932384626433832795028841971693993751058209749445923078164062862089986280348253421170679821480865132823066470938446095505822317253594081284811174502841027019385211055596446229489549303819644288109756659334461284756482337867831652712019091456485669234603486104... seconds!

Now go eat some pie!

PS - THANK YOU JAMI FOR THIS DARLING OUTFIT!!!!!!!!!!!

Shiner and Shots

Scarlett had a rough day.

It started with her face-planting in the shower onto a rubber ducky.  I was rinsing my face and I heard a thud so my eye shot open just in time to see her getting up.  I rocked her while she cried for about 1 min (seriously, she hardly cries when she gets hurt).  So I didn't think it was that bad... until I saw her puffy eye.  It was almost instantaneously purple.  Just last week she caught a crescent moon shaped bruise on her bum from sitting on a shaving cream lid in the shower.  It's turning out to be a dangerous place!

I felt soooooooooooo bad every time I looked at her sweet little face today.  My mom captured the emotion perfectly with her cell phone:

Then - poor girl - we took her to her well-baby 12 month checkup.  Where she got 5 shots!!!!!

The doctor said she's looking really great.  We can now start introducing cows milk and wean from nursing completely.  I told her that part of me feels guilty about working so much so I think that's why I continue to nurse as much as I do.  My doctor felt the same way when she was in med school... so that made my emotions feel a lot more justified (I mean, she's a DOCTOR and she feels that same way...)

The nurse who measured Scarlett's length was like "Woa!  She's off the charts!  Like a giant!"  So she re-measured and got the same answer - 29".  So when the doctor came in I asked her to double check the results (cause 12 month pants fit her just fine, that can't be right).  Dr. Savage also got 29", but the nurse accidentally put 39" in the computer!  No wonder she was off the chart!  Here's her 12 month stats:
  • Weight: 19 lbs, 8 oz (25%)
  • Length: 29 in (60%)
  • Head: 18 in (70%)
When they came to give her the shots both nurses commented on how strong her legs are.  There's some meat under all that chunk!

Dr. Savage said she's also really advanced for her speaking skills.  Most 12 month-olds use 1-2 words (mostly mama & dada) but Scarlett regularly uses lots of words and sounds.  I have *no idea* where she gets her love for talking ;-)

So after such a difficult day, I loaded her up with Tylenol and was prepared for her crying all night.  But..... she decided on a more clever way to repay me for all the damage.  She woke up with a dirty diaper (ok, that's not too bad).  But she woke at 1:15 WIDE AWAKE.  She has just been playing while I type this.  But I think she's worn herself out.... so we're going to try and go back to bed.  Wish us luck!

UPDATE: We were up for another hour or so... until someone "accidentally" slipped Scarlett some Benadryl.......

Scarlett's 1st Birthday!

Scarlett turned one today!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't believe it's already been a year!  And yet, I can't remember my life without her!

We weren't going to throw a huge party, but since Jake's next job may be out of state we realized this might be one of her only birthday parties with all her cousins.  So, in true Seaver style - we went all out!  :-)

All her cousins were able to come!  Also all her aunts/uncles (sans Uncle Kent and Uncle James), grandmas/grandpas, and even great-grandparents were able to come!!!  We're so grateful they were able to come and celebrate with us!

My sister Kandy's sister-in-law Stacy (follow?) is the Bakery Manager at Maceys and she does AWESOME cakes.  She made our wedding cake.  Well, I asked Stacy to make her a smash cake and another chocolate/raspberry filling cake for everyone else.  I sent her a few pictures of Scarlett and WordWorld (her favorite show).  This is the smash cake:
When we went to pick up the cake at the store, Scarlett kept turning around in the shopping cart seat to stare at her smash cake.  She loves Dog and kept trying to touch it, so when we finally let her have the cake she went to town!

This is the amazing cake Stacy made for the rest of us.  She's so talented!  It looks just like the show.  She even found more pictures and made it incredible! Thank you Stacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (and it was as tasty as it looks!)

We turned on WordWorld so everyone could see how excited she gets for it.  She clapped and smiled through the entire opening then went into her WordWorld daze:

Turns out the show has the same effect on her cousins (at least it's educational, right?)  Also, I was going to remove the red eye, but I think the picture is better with it...

I caught Scarlett picking her nose :-)  She kept sticking up her nostril then in her mouth, gross!!!

This is Scarlett's favorite viewing spot. She would watch an entire episode there if we let her.
Then we played "Smack a Smooch on Scarlett".  Courtney introduced me to this game at my bridal shower, and I just happened to have the perfect picture (she was making funny faces when we did her birthday photos last week - all faces except smiling that is!)

There was a lot of measuring going on - in the true Glauser fashion.

But Braxtyn just hit the bulls eye without even breaking a sweat.

Lots of love!  (we won't mention Aunt Jami's kiss out in la-la land...)
She got tons of great birthday presents that her cousins helped her break in.  I am excited to put her in all her new outfits!  There is one present I am going to blog about later - it's nostalgic.

When we were leaving we all stood over her and held up one finger to show that she was one - and she copied us!

All in all it was a wonderful birthday party!

Thanks again to everyone who helped and came!
