We had the opportunity to fly to Utah for a QUICK trip. There were several family events that I'll blog about later, but for the flight....
The last time we flew Jake and I ended up locking ourselves (and our girls) in a family bathroom and drenching ourselves with cold water. We were soooo sweaty from the stress and exertion just to get to our gate. This time we decided to ask our friend to drive our minivan and drop us off at the curb (foregoing the huge hassle of the airport shuttle). We did curbside check-in. The security lines were short. We made it through with 2 hours to spare and not a single bead of sweat on our brows! (well, maybe one or two, I did have to carry the twirls and scoot Scarlett through TSA while Jake dismantled and reassembled all our gear. Then they had to swipe my hands for ?explosive residue?) It was a much better experience.
Last time we flew Scarlett FREAKED OUT. I had to pin her down with my legs as I strapped her seat belt on. Luckily she's much older and was more prepared (thanks to the Bubble Guppies and Caillou airplane episodes!) She even figured out how to do her own seat belt! Marshall was safely strapped in as well.
I decided to give the twirls Benadryl for their ears. The entire flight was after their bed time and even with the medicine in their systems they still were awake for half the flight. Jake and I were busy passing toys, snacks, books, iPads, phones, and blankets back and forth. Anything to keep them distracted. It was busy, but they did great. Side note: they don't let us sit on the same row cause there can only be one "infant in arms" per row. It's because there is only one extra oxygen mask above each row. The logical Aerospace Engineer side of me complies without resistance while the tired mommy side of me gripes and complains about the inconvenience (only to Jake - poor guy).
I decided Scarlett didn't need Benadryl. Instead I packed a bunch of chewy treats to help her ears adjust to the change in air pressure. The sugar crash seemed to work better than the medicine:
After we landed the people sitting behind us told us how great our girls were *sigh of relief*. This trip was much more relaxing than our last flight and even our long drive this past spring. Maybe we'll try this again.

YAY! So nice when things go right. :-)
Your kids are going to be airport experts before they can write their own names!
Victory! I guess that means that we can now look forward to you flying out to Mexico to come visit us.
