Scarlett realllly wanted a puppy birthday party this year. Since we are obsessed with puppies (and birthdays) I thought it was a great idea. In order to make her invite we gathered all our puppy toys and did a little photo shoot...
The photos are a little blurry - cause I had two 2 year olds climbing on my back during the photoshoot. The twirls were absolutely no help, but they were pretty funny.
Scarlett was really excited to show off her splits.
Always my little puppies - climbing on everything and licking people.
This is the invite I made for her paw-ty.
The day of the party was a little chaotic. Jake and I agreed that we should invite everyone and have 90 min of chaos then make someone feel left out and have a life time of hurt feelings. The only bummer is that the CTR 4 class at church is a big group. More friends = more fun! Plus we like chaos at our house! ;-)
Jami made this cute poster for our door:
For her paw-ty Scarlett wanted "puppy ears" ie pig tails. So I got inventive and did some braids to mix it up a little.
The party went a lot more smoothly than last year's. I think we had 15 kids (plus 3 babies), but they were all really good at listening and following directions. We started in the living room. The kids got to pick out a puppy, a pipe cleaner and a bag of beads. Then they made little collars for their puppies.
After that they got a paper box and different stickers to decorate their "puppy houses". I ordered all the supplies on Oriental Trading and before the party we divided everything up into little sandwich bags so that everyone got that same amount and it was quick to pass out. Then they got some other puppy goodies for their houses (like a little tiny blow up beach ball, tiny dog bone candies, puppy stickers, & Scooby snacks).
Next was snack time. We had "puppy chow" (cocoa puffs) and popcorn. The kids got to eat out of their bowls like real puppies - I think this was the highlight of the paw-ty! Jami and I had everything planned out but the twirls were really being clingy. Luckily she was there to keep them happy and several of my friends stayed to help with the festivities. So there were plenty of adults to keep things running smoothly.
Pin the Tiara on the Pup (like $2 on Oriental Trading!)
I invented this next game: chase your puppy tails! We taped a crepe paper tail on their backs and they had to "chase" their tails til they caught it in their mouths. Then we gave them a puppy sticker to wear. It was silly - but the kids really seemed to enjoy this game!
Opening presents - this was total chaos! I didn't even get to watch because there were kids everywhere! They all wanted to be like 2" away from Scarlett and the twirls wanted to be on my lap. CRAZY! Scarlett got some cool and thoughtful gifts. And lots of adorable homemade cards! What a lucky girl!
I decided to order cupcakes this year (hey, I'm huge pregnant, I can cut corners where I need to!) The bakery had these colorful puppy cupcakes - sold! With all the time/energy/cleaning up - I think it was cheaper to buy them than make them!
Such a happy girl! We had extra games planned but after cupcakes it was time to go! I turned on a youtube playlist I made of cute puppy videos for the kids to watch while their parents arrived.
A few friends stayed after to enjoy an extra cupcake and help me clean (blessed blessed friends!) I even got to wear my puppy slippers!
All in all it was a very happy birthday! I seriously LOVE birthdays and I hope my girls grow up with that same enthusiasm for their special days! Now the only thing I'm worried about is celebrating the twirls turning 3 on May 2nd while being 39 weeks pregnant! Thank goodness Grammy will be here by then!
