Braids & Scouting

The twirls are enjoying their new nursery leaders - and so are we!  Oh my goodness the Deveys are amazing!  They send the twirls home with complete FHE lessons - often with full color prints and laminated pieces.  This week they got these laminated obedience charts with little beads to slide on string when they complete a task, they even put yellow/green beads on theirs!  They are wonderful!

I usually put a green or yellow bow in their hair to help their leaders tell them apart.  One day I forgot so I told Bro. Devey to just ask them their name.  Bro. Devey told me he had this conversation:
Bro. Devey (to Siena): "Are you Siena?"
   Siena: "No."
Bro. Devey: "Ok, are you Jaide?"
Siena: "No, I Nena.  I kidding!"
Oh my!  I can't believe this is already beginning!

Jake and I were reading scriptures one night.  We came across a scripture that I really liked: "And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness."  I told Jake I want this verse to describe our family.  And the best part?  I looked at the reference: 2 Nephi 5:27.  Yes, that's right 5/27!  My birthday!  I see this number EVERYWHERE!

The YW went to a multistake formal dance.  Before the dance I told Abby I would do her hair.  She sent me a few ideas on Pinterest.  I found one that I liked and decided to practice on Scarlett:

On the day of the dance we had a hair and makeup party.  I got to do Abby's hair and several other girls.

Look at all that curly hair!  And Marie was too young to go to the dance, instead she was going babysitting.  She let me do this infinity crown braid.

Chrissy was going to the dance as a chaperone.  I told her I wouldn't let her go without a fancy hairstyle.  So she finally complied.

Jami was a makeup rock star that night!  She did several full faces and the girls just looked amazing!

Before one of my lessons on Sunday one of the moms told me that her daughter Lily is terrified of pregnant bellies!  Hahaha!  I had no idea the past few months have been so traumatic for her!  So - on her mother's orders - before my lesson began I rubbed my belly on her arm!  haha!  A moment she won't forget!  *maniacal laughing*

For mutual one night the girls came over to my house and watched Once I Was a Beehive.  While we were waiting for everyone to arrive the Glauser Girls got to play with the YW.  They were in HEAVEN!  They were all being so social and having a blast.  It was hard to get them to go to bed after that (thankfully we had treats to bribe them upstairs).

A few months ago I was telling Jake that with all these girls he escaped years of scouting!  Literally just a few days later he got called to be the Wolf Den Leader.  They combine with another ward, so they have 9 boys.  He really likes it.  The boys are younger than his last den and they seem to participate better.  The girls and I have been able to tag along for a few activities...

We went to watch the Pinewood Derby.  Our girls love cars so we knew they would enjoy it.  The only hard part was that it was during their bedtime.  We picked up dinner on the way and ate at the church.

In between races the girls watched an older girl play on her smartphone.  It was cute to see how much they admired her.  They also enjoyed yelling "on your mark, get set, go!"  with the leader.

Another evening we were able to join them for a tour of the fire station.  Scarlett spoke about it a few days later and referred to the scouts as "those kids with the aprons on their backs."

Siena didn't want to sit in the seat, but they were all brave enough to climb through the ambulance.  Scarlett was nervous but went when Jake did.  Afterward she told me she was scared they were going to drive off with her stuck inside.  Poor girl!  I told her she just needs to ask when she's scared so we can talk about it.  But they were brave when the fireman put on all his gear.  And one of the other den leaders brought her 5 year old daughter, so the girls had a fun time playing.

The hairdos are amazing and I am proud of Scarlett for letting you practice on her. Looks like we need to get Jacob a Scout shirt for his birthday (is that like getting a Scumbuster from your husband on Christmas?). Anyway, glad that Jacob likes his new calling; I always thought it was fun. Wait till hiking season begins. Maybe he can make plaster of Paris paw prints of some animal they find on the trail. That would be cool. Thanks for the great blog.

Tell Scarlett about I was an EMT on ambulance for 12 yrs and love helping people, when you see an ambulance you should feel help is here. Sounds like you have really been busy. Love Grandma

Ah, scouts. So much work!!! Great job Jake!

We had a friend that was a firefighter and would give us private tours of the station, let the boys sit in the truck. They loved Mr. Johnson so much! That is sweet that the girls were nervous - sometimes we're so gung-ho now that I feel like they're about to run out the door and into life and this will all be over.
