Cutting it Close

"Jack of all trades, but master of none."  I've always felt like this describes my personality.  I love to learn new things, but once I have a working knowledge (ie: enough to be dangerous) I move on to something else.  I feel like I have an eclectic collection of semi-skills and an overflowing crap craft room.  Maybe I just need to lay off the caffeine for a bit and see if my hyper personality calms down (side note: I did stop drinking soda cold turkey last month.  I had AWFUL headaches for a week.  But now I'm back on the juice.  Don't judge.  It makes me happy.  I need happy right now.)

Aaanyways, Scarlett looked at me a few weeks ago and said "look, your hair's getting brown again!"  Thanks.  I guess my 3 year old noticing my roots was the final push I needed to color my hair.  I've never done my whole head blond before on my own, so I was nervous.  I picked a Saturday afternoon when the twirls were sleeping so Jake could help me (hold the mirror, direct any spots I may have missed).  I mustered up the courage and went for it!

I mustered up too much courage cause after I colored it I decided to cut it myself!!!!  I've never cut my own hair, but I've always wanted to try.  Since Kandy is in UT, Makenzie moved, and Laura was out of town - now was a perfect opportunity.  I was willing to live with whatever it looked like.  It's just hair, it will grow back - at least that's what I kept repeating as I started chopping away.  I had Jake come help me with the back (hold the mirror, even trim a few spots I just couldn't figure out).  But I was so happy with the results!  I don't know if I will cut my hair all the time (my arms were sooo sore the next day) but I'm happy to know I can kind of do it!

The receptionist at the pediatrician's office the other day told me "ooo! cute hair!"  A nice compliment - and proof that we go there waaay too much!  And when I went to the Queen concert a lady came up to me and told me that she loved my hair.  These people are giving me a false sense of security about my hair cutting capabilities

Random story: I remember my mom telling me when I was a teenager that her eyelashes got shorter after having kids.  I was a sassy teenage girl and thought to myself "ya right, you probably just don't remember what they used to look like."  Oh how I am eating my own words.  And they are bitter!  These past few months I've noticed my eyelashes are much shorter than they were in high school.  So mom "I'm sorry I laughed at you that time you told me about your eyelashes in Barnes and Noble.  And I'm sorry for telling everyone about it.  And I'm sorry for repeating it now."

Back to hair.  So my friend Ashley asked if I could help her color her hair.  She told me what she wanted and I already had the stuff to do it!  She came over after the kiddos were in bed one night for her transcoloration.  Before I started coloring her hair she asked me how brave I felt.... she wanted me to cut her hair... not just trim, but like cut it!  I was so excited/nervous!  I can't believe she put that much trust in me!  But Ashley and I are very similar in lots of our crazy ideas.  And at the end of the day it was a free haircut!  She was a great sport for letting me experiment on her and she didn't even complain when she had to bend over the tub with her prego belly so we could rinse her hair.  "You go, Glenn Coco!"
She wanted an a-symmetrical cut.  I love it!!!  (and not just cause I cut it, I think she had a great idea.)  She came over a few days later and had styled it so cute (I styled it below...it's been a looong time since I've used a round brush).

Jake brought home the new collection of O.P.I. Mustang inspired nail polish for me.  Scarlett saw them on the counter and said "look, a mustang!"  That was a proud moment for her daddy.  I'm not sure what color to paint next, but I know that "on Wednesdays we wear pink!"  I have no idea why I'm on a Mean Girls quote-high right now.  Probably because "I'm not like a regular mom. I'm a cool mom."  ;-)

Best post ever! I love all the Mean Girls references. I love your hair. I love my hair. And from now on I will always wear makeup to your house because somehow you will probably take a picture of me and I will wish I looked better. :) But really, I LOVE my hair.

Dang it, I'm not cool enough to know the mean girl references. But my eyelashes aren't shrinking, so I guess I'm still cooler than you. You know they have products that make your eyelashes grow crazy long? Since you can cut your own hair, trimming your own eyelashes shouldn't be a problem.

Latisse is the drug that makes long eyelashes; in order to get some free Latisse, you have to get a breast augmentation with McGhan implants. (Just in case anyone was wondering.)
Can't believe your were brave enough to cut your own hair. Tried to cut my husband's when we were first married. That ended badly and we never tried again. Yours looks fabulous.

I've read about latisse. It causes permanent eye color changes. It makes them more brown. I love my green eyes so I'm not willing to take that risk. Maybe I'll just have to join the Utah trend and pay for eyelash extensions. ;-)

You are so brave and so talented! It looks fantastic!!

As for visiting the pediatrician too much, such is life with three kids! When we go to our local Pediatric Urgent Care center, they recognize us. So....that is embarrassing........
