Oh Hel(met) No!!!

Skye is both chunky and teensy at the same time.  I like to call her my chunky teensy!

Skye - 4 Months
  • Height: 2 ft 0.50 in (47%)
  • Weight: 14 lbs 15 oz (63%)
  • Head Circumference: 40.75 cm (51%)

I noticed that Skye's head was looking really flat in the back.  Watch this video to get a better idea.

I did everything I could to help her head round out.  She didn't really spend time on her head when she's awake to begin with, but I did my tummy time.  I put her in the swing, front pack, crib, car seat.  And still it got flatter.  I think once there is a small flat spot that's where her head wants to stay while she sleeps.  The real problem (or blessing) is that she is a great sleeper.  At a very young age she was sleeping long stretches through the night.  I didn't wake myself up to turn her head.  So I guess if it was between a flat head or sleep, I'd pick the flat head.  Which is good, cause that's what we have.

I called my Doctor and she sent me to the helmet place to get measured.  Either she needs a helmet or she doesn't.  Luckily my mom was still in town when we went to the appointment.

My mom took this photo.  I raised my eyebrows and Skye did too!  haha!!!

The twirls enjoying the big chairs and applesauce squeezies.

After measuring her head Skye was off the chart.  I knew it!  Another brachycephaly baby.  They put a little stocking on her head and used a 3D scanner to get a digital model of her head.  They use that to custom design her helmet.  The bumbo is on a little turn table.  Grammy had a cute video on her phone that I held up, Skye kept turning her head to watch it!

We needed more scans around her neck so I had to take her jammies off.  Love that chunky monkey!

We've had her helmet for a a month now.  You can see the progress below.  The chart at the bottom shows the bell curve data for average heads.  Skye's outside the 2 sigma band.  That's why our insurance covered the helmet.

She wasn't too happy when we went to pick up the helmet.  The first week you start with one hour a day and slowly work up to 23 hours a day (only off for bath time and a little break).

But she slowly got used to it.......  Remind you of anyone?

Love her little squishy face.  She is so chunky that her forehead gets pushed down.  Poor girl!

She had a rash one day.  We went and got it adjusted so it didn't rub on her cheeks as much.  I noticed this weird mark on my arm - it's from nursing her with the helmet!

One time I took all the girls with me to the helmet place.  The girls all wanted to wear their unicorn shirts (I think it's cute when they choose to dress alike on their own).  I got stopped by almost everyone there.  Lots of "Are the twins? Are they triplets? You have your hands full. There's another one?!"  One nice guy (that looked like my parent's neighbor, Kay) and I were chatting a bit in the foyer.  He told me that he's seen lots of twins, but mine are the most identical he's ever seen.  He said Jake was a good man for loving all these girls and not worrying about a boy.  But my favorite was that he told the girls how lucky they were to have such a nice mommy. :-)

More about our little Skye: On September 29 she showed us that she can roll from her tummy to her back....

One night she squirmed and yelled at me when I swaddled her.  So I left her arms out from the swaddler and she just slept all night.  No adjustment needed!  My angel baby!!!!

I've had to let her cry it out a few times.  She's really good at sleeping through the night, but not good at sleeping during the day.  In fact, most days I'll put her in the swing for her nap so that I know she will take a good, long nap.

Occasionally she'll fall asleep while playing.

Scarlett called Skye the "slobber blaster" and another day she called her a "yummy gummy."

Jake loves playing games with our babies.  He's always teaching them some cool trick.  Here is peekaboo...

We invited a new couple moving into our stake to eat dinner with us one night. I told the girls that they were coming over with their little baby (one month younger than Skye). The twirls kept asking if they were bringing baby Skye? So I tried to explain that not all babies are named Skye. They showed up and guess what?! Their baby is named Skye!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!! What are the chances? And right after I told my girls that not all babies are baby Skye!
