Before the blessing Scarlett told Laura "Make sure you bring fresh flowers in a vase and some candies to Skye's blessing." (Why?) "Cause I've seen some people bring that to weddings." Not sure what she thought was happening exactly - but there was a white dress involved so we needed flowers and candy of course!
So far, the last two times we've scheduled baby blessings we've had terrible luck. Scarlett's blessing ended in the ER after I went into anaphylactic shock taking ibuprofen. And the morning we blessed the twirls Draper went into lock down after an officer was shot and killed. The officer grew up across the street from Jake's parents - it was such a sad day. So I was ready for something to happen this time.
Prior to Skye's blessing I wanted to find a dress that matched the other girls' dresses in style. I found a dress that worked for her on this website. I bought it but never got a confirmation email. I saw that they took money out of our Paypal, so I sent them a quick email to see if I could get a package tracking number. The email bounced back to me. So the next day I tried calling them. It went to voicemail and their voicemail box was full. Uh oh. I did some more research and from what I can tell it went out of business over a year ago, but their site still takes payments. Thank goodness I paid with Paypal so I was able to dispute it and get my money back. But no dress. Then I went on Amazon and found another dress that I liked. It was even Prime! Sweet. I bought it and got an email saying the dress would arrive in 2-3 months. Uh, no. Cancel. Finally I decided to check Babies R Us (my neighbor gave me a gift card there after Skye was born). I found this fluffy delight! It arrived 2 days later, fit perfect, and made me so happy! So yes, we did have a little bad luck on the blessing, but nothing like the other girls. As bad luck goes, this was not bad.
The night before her blessing we got to bed late (lots of fun partying with all the grandparents). I wanted to go to bed, but I asked Jake if we should paint Skye's toe nails. He asked "did you paint the other girls' toes?" Yes. "Then let's paint Skye's!" He's such a great daddy for all these girls! Love him!
The actual blessing was wonderful. Jake did a great job and really captured her angelic little spirit. It was so sweet to see her little body surrounded by her daddy and her grandpas. Right after the blessing Jake held her up and there were these bright blue eyes poking out of this ball of white fluff. There were lots of little chuckles. She was just too cute! I took her into the mother's room to nurse her right after. She was in such a good mood before I fed her, I decided to snap a few photos of her in the rocking chair. Oh man, she was hamming it up!!!! As Scarlett said "Mom, we have a smile machine! It's baby Skye!"
Here are some more photos from the photo shoot. There weren't a lot of her smiling, she was sick the 2 days we tried to get photos. So I really had to work to get her to cheese. But there were lots of cute photos. I really struggled picking one for the hallway. In the end we picked one that matched the other girls the most - a little smirk instead of a huge smile and a similar body position. She is just so yummy!

My friend Emily is a great photographer. She took a few family photos of our crew after church in the parking lot. The sun was bright in our eyes and the girls weren't super into it, but we captured the moment. I realized that this is one of our first family photos.
A week later I borrowed my friend Sara's living room chair and took some photos of Skye for our hallway. I love their puffy dresses, big eyes, bead bracelets, flower headbands, and little smirks.

Sweet pictures, all are growing so fast! Love Grandma
You did way better than me. First kid had like 100 pictures of everyone all dressed up at church. Second kid had a few pictures at home after church. Third kid.....one picture, naked, howling with rage during his colicky pre-bedtime scream-fest. So...hats off to you!
I'm glad this one went better. :-)
