Samsung... more like Sam-Don't-Sing!

A week before Christmas we came into the living room and turned on the TV for some morning cartoons.  Imagine my shock and dismay when the screen wouldn't turn on!!!  I did some basic troubleshooting and finally decided to give SAMSUNG a call.  The TV in our bedroom had capacitors that were recalled, so I was hoping it was a quick fix.  Send a guy out, back in business.  But after MANY phone calls they finally determined that our screen was a defective unit.

Luckily we bought our TV less than a year ago so it was all under warranty.  I was worried that it wouldn't be covered since it was a floor model, but no problem there!  (phew!)   SAMSUNG had their repair guy call us and said the new screen and electronic board would take two-three weeks to arrive.  THREE WEEKS!!!!  GASP!!!!  People - don't you realize how much I depend on TV during the day!?!?!?!??!?!!?!?  Plus Jake was going to be off work for Christmas!

Luckily we have an iPad, smart phones, Laptop, Desktop, and the 46" TV in our bedroom still works great.  But we ended up spending a lot more time in our bedroom.  Food, wrappers, crumbs, toys, spills, but we persevered!  (I know, you were really feeling bad for us!)  Finally the repair guy called and said the parts were back ordered so they were just going to replace our entire TV.  A few days later Jake was able to go to Best Buy and get a brand new shiny 60" TV - with the box!  (our first TV that's not a floor model!)  Did you know that they come with instruction manuals?  It looks beautiful and works great.  The original floor model had a bunch of scratches on the outside frame (like someone laid it on it's face and slid it on the floor).  They weren't too noticeable, but they were still there.  Now we have a pristine TV with no blemishes!  Hopefully it will stay that way (there are lots of flying projectiles in our house... *fingers crossed*)

I will say, SAMSUNG was very easy to work with on both of our TVs.  Despite this issue, I would still buy a SAMSUNG in the future.

If you hadn't had a TV in the other room, I would've totally expected you to go buy an emergency TV. Seriously--I would have a hard enough time having no TV for that long, and I'm not home nearly as much as you are. And how are you supposed to have 5 minutes to shower if there's no TV to entertain your babies??

So glad it all worked out and that you're now the proud owners of a shiny new TV.

60 inches huh? Someone in our house wants one like that. Unfortunately for him, none of our tvs ever stop working, including the giant tube ones. Sidenote, if you ever get stuck in a life or death situation like that again, second hand stores tend to have lots of giant tube tvs in the $10-15 range--you know, just to get you by for a week or two.

Oh that is a HUGE pain! Our boys hardly watch TV anymore, but when they were little like your kids, that was the only way I could shower or eat my sandwich in peace. I feel your pain!! I'm glad they didn't make you wait for the backordered parts!!

The new one will totally get trashed. Brace yourselves for that. I intentionally only buy pre-dented stuff now, so that there is no disappointing moment when I find the first dent a kid put in our new fridge or whatever. I figure it will end up dented anyway…might as well get a discount. :-)
