Don't Cry For Me Jaide-'n-Siena

Jake and I are starting to get the twins mixed up more than I would like to admit.  Ironically Scarlett is getting better at identifying them (she is diligent about looking for the "red spot").

Last night I went to feed the girls but had to potty first.  Since I turned the bathroom light on I couldn't see in the dark - my eyes hadn't adjusted.  I was a zombie and still in a daze when I picked up Jaide.  At first I could tell something was wrong, but for a second I couldn't figure out what was going on.  Then I realized I had picked her up - upside-down!!!!!

I feel really bad about this... whenever one of the twins gets hurt accidentally (ie: Scarlett throws a toy up and it lands on one of them, I accidentally bonk their head when putting them under the play mat, etc) it always seems be be poor Siena!  Oops!
I went to the stake center for the RS broadcast.   Afterwards my friends listened to me complain about how tired I was cause they've been waking up every 2 hours or so at night.  Then it takes like 30 minutes to rock them back to sleep.  I was exhausted.  They gave me a pep talk and courage to let them both cry it out.  So I drove straight home, got Jake on board, nursed them, put them each in their own crib and let them cry.  We went downstairs and watched a movie.  A very loud movie.  For some reason it wasn't as hard as letting Scarlett cry it out.  Don't get me wrong, it was hard.  Especially with two of them.  Yikes!  But I didn't feel as guilty.  I guess having a house and not having to worry about apartment neighbors helps.  It also helped that they were such poor sleepers the prior week.  I was ready to try anything.  It was 90 minutes of nervous movie-watching then it was over!  The next night it was about 30 minutes.  Then something magical happened and the babies taught themselves to go to sleep.  Now our nighttime routine starts at 7.  Jake and I bathe the babies while Scarlett drinks chocolate milk in our bed and watches Paw Patrol.  I nurse the babies and burp them, then lay them down in their cribs (no longer swaddled) while Jake puts Scarlett to bed.  Then by 8 we are sitting on the couch eating bon bons with no sounds from the peanut gallery.  It's amazing!!!  I don't think Scarlett was this easy to sleep train.  I guess the twins were just waiting for me to get my act together cause they seem to like their routine too.  They wake up to eat around midnight then don't wake up til 6ish.  Last night is was 7:30!  I woke up first, drenched by my engorged boobies!  And as a result they are even sleeping better during the day!  YAY!!!!!  I'm starting to feel human again!

The girls are starting to stay awake for 2 hours at a time and play.  They like their bouncers and to sit in the bumbos while Scarlett entertains them (she's such a good big sis!).  They even like to watch each other play!

I switched to the orthopedic binkies - they seem to stay in better at night.  Plus I can see the pattern on the white part in the dark so I can tell them apart at night.  I used to just feel their hair, but now Jaide's catching up to Siena.  I'm sure I get them mixed up occasionally - but for the most part I think I put them in their own beds.

If Jake picks up one baby he tries to not show the other one so they don't get jealous.  That boy cracks me up!

They both like to move their heads back and forth fast (left, right, left, right, etc) when falling asleep.

Siena covers eyes when falling asleep.  Jaide can turn herself 90 degrees. (see picture)

Jaide started laughing too (Sept 28).  Now if I'm really lucky I can get them both giggling at the same time.  It only last for a few short minutes but it's totally adorable (or "totes adorbs" for you hipsters out there).  It's hard to get on film cause it is so brief.  But we've caught the tail end of one before...

My favorite way to pick them up onto the nursing pillow.  I call it the "Lion King Hold"

They are really into chewing on their hands - even if it's not their own!  They like to suck on their first two fingers.  I think it's funny cause they both do it.  I think there is a whole nature vs nurture argument there...

They seemed to prefer the right hand/left hand.  I was convinced that they would use those to write someday.  But now they don't seem to prefer one over the other.  Just whatever hand is closest.

Sucking on two fingers - a new favorite!  At least they can find their fingers in the middle of the night!

Playing with dad (warning - a long video that I didn't cut down... don't feel obligated to watch the whole thing... unless you're my mom, then you should feel obligated!  j/k mom!  but not really!  just joking!  but I'm not...)

I remember how absolutely ecstatic I was when the babies started sleeping 6 hrs or so at a stretch. Gave me a whole new lease on life. I am so happy for you, I actually got a little choked up reading this. Keep up the routine.
Also, it's fun to see your family playing together and creating bonds. How special!

Oh I am so happy they are sleeping for you now!! It is just the WORST feeling to be so tired all the time! They'll have backslides, so brace yourself for that, but you'll get past them.

I always picked my babies up that way, but it was because my back bothered me so much that I often couldn't bend down enough to get them, so I'd just lug them around by their (sturdy!) jammies. :-)

I'm impressed that you keep track of who is who at all. I'd have to tattoo them at birth, and even then I'd probably get it wrong at least half the time. :-)

Also, unrelated to anything you wrote, you are looking FABULOUS! You are one hot mama!

I'm happy you're getting more sleep now--I don't know how you function at all, frankly. But you're rocking it.

I love the way you pick them up to nurse. I remember laughing about it like crazy when I saw you this summer. Just too funny!

Yea for routines! They accepted bedtime much better than some of my kids. I remember two nights of four-hour screaming stretches when K was learning to put herself to sleep. I'm glad you've been able to implement this for all of you.
