The Admirable Snowman

We've had tons of snow and freezing weather lately (like -20degF with wind chill).  In fact, on Sunday I asked Jake if it was warm enough that I didn't need my coat.  He went outside and said "ya, it feels great.  I'm not going to wear mine either."  It was 33degF.

On the way back to Ford from a supplier last week, Jake was merging onto the freeway.  The traffic came to a standstill cause there was a lady on the on-ramp who was turned sideways and high-centered on a snowbank.  Jake got out and started helping her.  He spent 40 min digging her car out of the snow - in his work clothes.  Luckily she had kitty litter in her car they were able to use to get some traction.  He finally got her free and she gave him a big hug (purely platonic).

Then on the way home from church another day we passed a driveway where some guy was just spinning out his tires.  Jake jumped out and helped him for a bit.  Also, in his dress pants.  The guy asked why he was dressed up and he was able to chat about the church for a few min.

I am so proud of Jake for taking advantage of these service opportunities.  We've been talking lately about how we can provide more service and I think it's really about paying attention.  Each time Jake was helping these people there were many cars that drove on past.  I know I am guilty of being caught up in my own little world and not realizing how I can help others.  I've been praying to be more mindful of those around me and to recognize ways I can provide service.  I'm thankful for Jake's good example!  (even if it meant more laundry for me)

Looking down our driveway (see the fire hydrant?)

From the corner of our property.  And this is after it had rained for a bit and melted some of the snow.

Whoa-holy snow! Reminds me of just a few really bad winters we had in Ogden. Yikes.

Um...you know I love Michigan, but I'm not missing it too much just now.

Ah, the snow in Michigan. My boys would be so jealous! I once told the kids we didn't need coats for errands and then looked and saw it was only 30º. It felt so warm!! Haha! Oops!!

You married a good one!!

I keep hearing about snow days, but it's something our plow drivers are just dreaming about this winter. Can't say I have a problem with global warming right now.

So glad he has been able to help the people around him. Everyone here has been trapped in the snow, too, and I am not always strong enough to help them get out! Your hubby is a keeper.
