$100 Manicure

Jake went dirt biking up American Fork canyon with his buddy Eric.  Unfortunately he ran into a tree.  He smacked his knee and right thumb into the tree pretty hard.  His thumb nail got all bent back.  It was killing him.  He said the pain was similar to when he dislocated his shoulder.  So we decided to go the ER and get it checked out.  I fed the girls and got them to bed then we drove to Orem Community Hospital.  My parent's next door neighbor was right behind us the whole time.  Turns out he is an ER doctor and was on his way to work.  We got checked in and he helped us out.  They numbed up Jake's finger with probably 10 shots.  I could tell when the numbing stuff started working cause Jake finally stopped shaking and got color back in his face.  It never went completely numb but the pain was at least manageable.  The soaked the nail and cleaned the nail bed then snapped his nail back into place.  Then he had an xray to make sure the bone wasn't broken.  Luckily no bones were broken but he had to keep it wrapped for a few days.  I think Jake's done riding for a little while.

Ugh - poor Jake! We had that happen with a toe here this summer and it was excruciating! Glad he is feeling better.

You chose red as your bandage color? That is worse than the injury!

Now he knows firsthand why pulling nails is an effective method for torture. :o/
