You know how I love Halloween. We discuss our family costume theme all year long. Scarlett has wanted to be a bat for MONTHS. I tried to talk her into several other themes. She could not be swayed. So finally gave in and decided to just go with it. I gave the twirls some suggestions and they picked to be rainbow butterflies. Going with that theme I thought Skye would be a cute dragonfly. I wanted to be a spider. And Jake would be one hot entomologist! Here's our cheesy photoshopped family.
Here's our 2015 costume and all the previous years, if you're interested.I wanted to make their wings. I found this awesome fabric at Joann's for the butterfly wings. I didn't have to hem the edges. I used fabric paint to draw black details on the wings and it showed through on both sides! Awesome! I'm so glad I got a sewing machine last Christmas and it made the whole costume thing so much easier!!!
I even got the girls involved stuffing spider legs!
For Skye's wings I used fabric sewn around pipe cleaners. I couldn't find my white elastic for the arm straps so I just cut up a headband!
Costume fun.....
Socks and sandals, oooolala!
Jami was in town, so she dressed up like an "aunt". hahaha!
Trunk or treat!
I used eyelash glue to stick googly eyes to my forehead (gotta have 8 eyes!) Well I'm so allergic to everything! So I took off the eyes and had perfectly round hives! haha!
On Halloween day, the Furness girls came over to join our festivities.
It was so fun to go trick or treating with the older girls. And this was the first year it wasn't raining or snowing on Halloween!
We ended up collecting another family along the way! So fun! The kids did such a great job taking turns ringing the doorbells. Only one ring per house and 6 kids - they didn't even complain!
Jami said we didn't get a lot of visitors - because she was sitting in the back room and didn't hear the knocking! haha! More candy for us I guess!
The girls thought it was so fun to hand out candy too.
We don't get a lot of trick or treaters in our neighborhood. But we have a lot of generous older couples. Do you see all those little gift bags filled with candy? Several of our neighbors assemble these little gift bags full of treats, chips, and toys for the kids. I sort the candy into chocolate bag (hidden on the top shelf) and the fruity junk and then a bag full of nuts for Jake to take to work (called the nut sack, haha)
So the whole month of October we watched all the Halloween episodes of our kids shows. In The Creative Galaxy one of the girls wears a rainbow costume that looked just like the one I invented for my girls last year! Crazy!
