July: A Hot Mess

I like to joke that I'm always a hot mess (it's funny, cause it's true!)  Well we took the girls to the grocery store and I realized as we were walking through the aisles that we were a hottest mess.  Between the wild hair, outfits that they chose and the leg warmers (even on Scarlett's arms) I think we reached a new high point!

I went to use my red cutting board and found this!  Jake was fixing the rear shock on his dirt bike and he needed plastic to make a spacer.  Apparently he found some plastic.

Jake went dirt biking one day and before he even left the driveway Siena told me "I miss daddy!" What a popular guy!

I wanted a picture of the girls after church one Sunday to show off their cute matching dresses and matching braids.  Scarlett asked me before church "Can I get a lot of little braids in my hair with beads at the bottoms like my friend?"  Haha!  Maybe she needs corn rows!

After taking their photo on the grey wall they wanted their picture in front of the green wall.... then the red wall.... then the yellow wall!  haha!  Name colors!  They lost interest by the time we got upstairs to my bedroom.

All summer long, about once a week we will hear a "thump" on one of our living room windows.  It took a few times before we realized it was a bird hitting our windows!  Sometimes they even leave feathers stuck to our glass.  You might think we have super clean windows.  False.  They are just bird brains.  hee hee.

I let the girls pick nail stickers when we paint nails.  Jaide and Siena picked little skull and cross bones.  Jake said at church Jaide was walking bare foot and a little 8 year old girl came up and told him "ummm she has a skull on her toes."  I was just impressed that the girl noticed it!  I love our quirky girls.  I want them to feel safe being them.  I found this princess hitching a ride on a big rig, haha!  Grumple is so proud!

We found a frog - maybe Ferriswee?  Remember the toad toe pants?  Well Jaide's new joke is
Jaide: "knock knock"
(who's there)
"toe pants"
(toe pants who?)
... I miss toe pants.
*buzz kill*

Ashley taught our girls a new game called "synchronized bites" where we load up our forks, do a little dance with them, and chomp the food at the same time. It's been a great tool to help them eat their meals.

I love that my girls say "easy peesy lemon squeezey" and "okey dokey artichokey" it makes me smile!

Things that don't make me smile: waking up in the middle of the night with the 3 older girls in our bed.  Um no thanks.  That's too many bodies in one bed!

These girls love their "name color crocs!"  I love that they can put them on by themselves.  I showed the twirls to know what foot to put in each shoe that they should make a circle at the top, not a butterfly.

We were watching 'Jake and the Neverland Pirates' and Scarlett said "Wow Peter Pan isn't ugly, he's handsome!"  Oh my!  It's already beginning!

Apparently she's into how people look.  When we were video chatting Jami on Jami's bday she told her "Aunt Jami you look so pretty!  Not any ugliness!"  haha!  She also asked her "Are you at the hospital?"  (she wasn't, thank goodness).  Jaide asked Aunt Jami "is Aunt Carolyn there too?"  bwahaha!

Scarlett was playing with the marble toy and it broke - then she asked "did it break because that didn't have a structural under it?"  *pride*

Scarlett's also into bad words.  Once she learns a new one, it is on her mind constantly for weeks.  Like she asked "Mom can I tell Abby what stupid means? I'm too scared, you do it."  Or "I thought a bad word and it rhymes with rupid" hahaha!  And "Can I have permission to say the bad word in my head out loud... (yes) Stupid."  It will be interesting to see what happens when she goes to kindergarten and learns even more bad words!  Yikes!

Jaide can be such a sweetie, but man when she's tired watch out!  Sometimes when I ask her to be quiet (like if Skye's sleeping) she will scream and yell.  What a stinker!  She gets jealous of Skye's attention and climbs on me and says "hold me mom!"  Even when my arms are full.  But then she can be so hilarious.  She calls Pringles "mustache chips".  For several days she walked around carrying this book and would randomly sit down and look at the pages.

Jaide was singing this little song and being so cute, so I got her to do it for the camera.  I love how she always tries to hold back her smiles, but you can see them in the corner of her mouth.  Jake does the same thing when he tries to fib.  His lips betray his lie!

We went to IKEA for dinner one night.  Scarlett asked me "How come you're milking baby Skye again?"  That girl loves to eat!

The Furness family came over one day.  Siena ran up to them and exclaimed "Baby not in mommy's tummy again"  Ashley asked Siena what the baby's name is, Siena replied "Blue!"  haha!  That's the only time I've heard her say that!

Siena told Jami while video chatting "baby Skye outta mommy's tummy."  She also said in dinner prayer "thank you baby Skye outta mommy's tummy."  She really loves Skye, but maybe she loves having a functioning mom too!

Siena told me "I love you all day long."  What a sweetie.  She was playing with a ink stamper that was the shape of a ghost and said "LOOK!  Holy ghost!"  And she'll run full speed toward you while yelling "Incoming!!!"

My visiting teachee, Shannon, is a drama teacher.  Well since she was off for the summer she offered to come baby sit for us so we could go to dinner after the girls were in bed!  Even Skye got to eat.

Jake told his manager at work "In the words of Ice Cube... It was a good day."  haha!  The manager was like "You don't strike me as an Ice Cube quoter.."  Jake is full of surprises!  He even brought home the chief engineer's mustang one night.  The girls got to go on a ride down our neighborhood.  They loved that it had no roof!  Also, Jake went to a Tiger's baseball game with his team one afternoon.  The two chief engineers on his team came and sat on either side of him and told him what an awesome job he's doing on the program.  Go Jake!  (now Jake's not going to tell me things like this cause he'll be afraid that I'm going to post it on our blog, but I want our girls to look back at this and know what a rock star he is!)

One evening Scarlett was overtired and threw a HUGE tantrum.  I put the other girls to bed while Jake took care of her.  They had a heart to heart and she told him, unprompted, that "I just don't get as many loves now that baby Skye is here."  Oh my heart hurt for her.  But I feel like I'm working as hard as I can to fulfill all their many needs.  It's been an adjustment for everyone.  Hopefully we're working towards finding a happy balance with 4 small kids.  I love our girls, but it's crazy.  Did I mention I'm a hot mess?

Thanks for reminding me that the girls can get jealousy issues around baby Skye. That explains a lot. Still...they will live through it and love their family. You are doing a great job as a Mom.

Haha! Your poor cutting board. That is hilarious.

I LOVED crocks when my kids were that age. Sweet heaven they could finally do their own shoeing. Love the name colors. :-)

You're doing GREAT! You can never be everything for everyone and there is great value in letting them learn a little independence. But I know it feels awful to feel like you're not meeting all their needs. You're doing great, and it will get easier. For all of you. Hang in there!
