Thirty-Three

Jake turned 33 this year - the year that the twirls turned 3 and I turned 30.  Lots of 3's!

The Monday before his bday Jake celebrated by going on a mountain biking trip a few hours away.  Nice to explore some of this lovely state!  We can't wait for our girls to get older (or for me to stop having babies!)

After Jake went all-out for my bday I wanted to do something fun for Jake.  He had to work that day so I woke up early and packed him a lunch.  I jimmy rigged it so when he opened his lunch box at his desk (surrounded by coworkers) this very happy birthday card started singing.  Bwahahaha!  I also wrapped some treats in wrapping paper for him to enjoy that day.  He said that it worked perfect and totally caught him by surprise.

Chocolate butterscotch cake.  Those candles have colored fire!

The girls and I made this flip book for Jake's bday.  I've been wanting to make it for awhile but I really needed to wait til my mom was here to help me.  The girls were AWESOME at following instructions and were totally happy the whole time.  It was a miracle!

Here's a video of the flipping action:

Here are some of the photos in the book: (Jake kept making fun of my black hoodie - I wanted to just blend in the background and have the focus on Skye).  I had them slide while I shot photos in continuous shoot mode.  I used my tripod so everything was lined up.  And I made sure they were in the right side of the frame cause the left would be held together with the binder clip.  I think I printed about 20 photos of each girl.  I printed 2 copies of every picture when they were on the slide mid-action to help it show up better when you flip through quickly.  I was so happy that it turned out without any issues (a rare thing for a new big craft project!)

I really outdid myself with wrapping his presents.

The girls trying out dad's new rollerblades:

Jake's wanted these for a long time.  He keeps telling me how they are "cool" again.  I'm not sure I believe him, but I know Scarlett was super excited to go rollerskating with her dad!  (in the middle picture the girls are admiring bird poop on the back of Jake's car).

Jake had to go to cub scouts on his bday.  So after he left my mom helped me load the older girls in the car.  She stayed home with Skye while the girls and I bought tidbits and took them to a surprised Jake and his den.  Those boys were all. over. the. place.  The girls were a bit overwhelmed at their craziness, so we didn't stay too long.  Just long enough to sing Happy Birthday to this handsome hubby of mine!

My SIL Christy sent us this awesome present.  I love it so much!  I think it's such a fun representation of our little family (well, not so little anymore!)  The artist is Celine Nienhouse.  She is Christy's friend's sister.  She lives in Michigan and has twins named Scarlett and Violette.  How fun and THANK YOU CHRISTY!

Fun blog; I wondered where you got that cool family picture card. The flip book is great. I never would have thought of that. So cool that the girls cooperated. Can't wait to see Jake on skates. It brought back memories of the Dad teaching his sons to roller blade to music on the TV show----dang what was the name of that show?
