She really is a wonderful baby. She only cries when she's hungry, needs a diaper change, or is tired. Often we feed her, change her, then wrap her in a swaddle blanket and she falls right asleep. Those velcro swaddle blankets are magic. I love them!!! When people ask how we're doing, Jake likes to say "Jen's sleeping like a baby." hardyharhar. But it's not really even that bad. She's 4 weeks old today and the last few nights she has slept a 6 hour stretch. I always cluster feed at night, which is inconvenient but man, 6 hours of continuous sleep is magic. Then - to prove her angel baby status - she will eat then fall back asleep for 4 hour stretch. ANGEL!
On May 29 my mom put Skye on her belly for tummy time. She rolled herself over! Jake and my mom were so proud, but I (debby downer) said it was a fluke. So my mom put her on her tummy again and she rolled over again! So finally I got my phone out and made Skye roll one more time. She was so mad at us! But she did it! Only 3 weeks old!!!! She is so strong! She's been able to hold her head up since she was born and now this! So different from our delicate preemie twins.
Another one of Skye's tricks: she smiles almost every time that she falls asleep! I'm not even exaggerating here people! As she drifts off to peaceful slumber she'll give us a little smirk - sometimes it's a full on grin! She started this after a few days of being born and it's still going strong. But the last week or so we've got more smiles when she's awake. I swear she smiles at me sometimes. I told you - angel baby! My favorite is when I'm burping her in the middle of the night. Her little cheek is pressed against mine and in the dark I can feel her little face smile as she breathes her hot baby breath on my neck. LOVE!
In this video she gives a little smirk while awake: (Also, have you ever noticed that newborns sound like squeaky little dinosaurs?)
This video she sneezes, does her Blue Steel look (more info below), goes crosseyed for a second, then gives little smirks.
When Scarlett was little she would pull out Derek Zoolander's Blue Steel look. I noticed that Skye also likes to look really, really ridiculously good looking.
We even got it on video:
Nursing has been going great, mostly... I have had 2 clogged milk ducts and mastitis. While on the antibiotics for mastitis poor Skye's bum got a yeast infection and looked so raw! Luckily for her I already had the medication to take care of it (chalk it up to baby #4). I love the sound they make while eating (the suck/swallow). After she eats I will pull her back from my body and she often smacks her little lips. ADORABLE!
In just a month she's outgrown the little hospital hat! She's growing so fast!
When I took Skye to her 4 day old weight check Dr. Tosto commented on how aware she is for a newborn. She said that people often think that their babies are aware/awake but our baby actually is. When she's awake she is analyzing and taking in her surroundings. (and yes, those are neck pillows she's using as a recliner).
Those black and white stripes are sooooo interesting!!!
I put a bandaid over her belly cause it was bleeding. Right after I took this picture I noticed that her umbilical cord was missing from under her bandaid! It fell off and was just in her jammies!
I noticed that her lashes were really curled on the outside of her eye. It's from her little chubby cheeks pushing her eyelashes against her eyelid! Too cute!
One of my favorite things is when you pick her up right after sleeping and she still wants to keep her legs tucked, arches her back, and pokes her little bum out. Such a cute little person!!! We are smitten with our sweet little Skye!!!

Oh my...what an adorable post. Three weeks old and rolling over. Paul was watching the video while I was finishing my shower and I could hear it; he said she is rolling over! I said, 'no way, babies can't do that so early." Unbelievable but you have photographic evidence. My arms are aching to hold her and smell her. Thanks for sharing.
This post made me dream about babies all night long. Oh my goodness she is adorable. Please please hold her close and smell her sweet hair - I'm pretty sure that is what heaven smells like. *sigh*
As for her being advanced, uh, obviously. She's got you for a mom!
I had one baby that would moan happily with each swallow of milk. I loved nursing him and hearing that little happy sigh over and over. :-)
I'm pretty sure Angel Baby is a sign that you're not done having kids. ;-)
I love this post! She's so darling. Sounds like you're high on oxytocin- ahhhh, love that hormone!
