Spontaneous iPod Combustion

My new iPod came today!

Now, you may be thinking "oh that Jenni... she sure likes to spend her money willy nilly on frivolous things" - but you would be wrong!

Actually... I won the recall lottery!  You see, in November I received this email from Apple:
Dear iPod nano owner,
Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.
This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.
Apple recommends that you stop using your iPod nano (1st gen) and follow the process noted below to order a replacement unit, free of charge.
Note: This battery issue is specific to the iPod nano (1st gen) and does not affect any other iPod. ...
YIKES!

I loved that thing.  We had many good times together... it even had an inscription on the back:
Jenni Seaver
Love, Dad and Mom

Part of me thought I should just keep it as a memento and not as a music storage device... but Jake talked me out of that silly idea.  And not wanting my arm to burst into flame while running, I said goodbye to my beloved iPod.

That being said, I am really liking my new iPod - and I haven't even put music on it yet!  Just the fact that it has 8GB storage blows my mind!  And it's so small!  Swipe screen, clip, no scratch metal... wow!  Welcome to 2012 Jenni!

Congrats! That's living the American dream right there! I had a friend who had a 1st generation iPod. She kept having mini problems with it and they kept upgrading her every year for free. Yet they're still profitable!

Congrats on your new "baby". I get a "new" one every year...when someone in my family upgrades and passes down their old one to me. :-) Amazes me how technology has changed in such a short time!!
