April: No Mountains, No Gallbladder, No Problem!

We woke up on April 1st with hand soap in our shower and shaving cream next to Jake's sink.  The shaving cream had a note on it that said "Soap".  I have no idea where Scarlett learned about April Fool's Day, but she came up with that joke all on her own!

Berlyn woke up one morning at 1 am with terrible gallbladder pain.  We went to the ER and they did a bunch of blood work and an ultrasound that showed gallstones, then they sent us home.  A few days later the exact same thing happened in the middle of the night.  They ran the same tests with the same results.  They were going to send us home again but we asked if they could do any other tests since she keeps having the same pain.  They ran a HIDA scan.  Her gallbladder wasn't even visible on the screen.  They gave her morphine then ran the tests again but it still didn't show up.  They diagnosed her with biliary colic and the surgeon suggested that they remove the gallbladder since it's blocked off and causing her so much pain. Plus it's highly likely that it will get infected soon.  Just a few minutes later they started prepping her for surgery.  Berlyn wanted a priesthood blessing before her surgery.  Jake was home with the girls.  We couldn't find someone to come watch them so he could come to the hospital right then.  So I called the missionaries.  The hospital wasn't in their area but they decided that this was a good reason to leave, so they came right over.  At that time Berlyn was in the pre op room.  They only let 2 people in at a time, but they let me stay in there with the elders.  Elders to the rescue!  About an hour later the surgeon came in the waiting room to tell me that everything went well.  They were able to do the procedure via laparoscopy with 4 small incisions (they pulled her gallbladder out of her belly button!!!)  Berlyn spent the next week recovering, and so did I!  I was so slammed from all the all nighters and waking up to give her pain pills.

My girl all woke up with blisters in their mouths.  I was pretty sure we had Hand Foot and Mouth so I called the doctor and they made an appointment to see all 4 of them that day.  We went into the office and the nurse told me that one of the other nurses said "oh man you have 4 kids in one room today!"  She looked and said "oh the Glausers are the one of the only families where I'm ok with 4 kids in one room".  She told me my girls are less work than a lot of people who just have one kid!  haha!  I feel bad for those people cause we are a lot of work!  But I appreciated the nice comment from her.  The doctor came in and said we didn't have HFM and it was just a little virus.  Ugh.  Sometimes when I go to all the effort to trek into the doctor, I kind of want them to be really sick so I don't feel like I wasted a bunch of time.  But I guess I'm grateful that they were fine... kinda ;-)

Jake took Scarlett to Take Your Child to Work Day.  We just watched the ballet movie Leap the night before, so while driving to Ford they passed a building with women's legs on the side of the building.  Scarlett said "Look!  A Dancing School!"  (It was really a strip club oops!)  She had a great time with her dad.  This year they even made name badges for each kid.  She picked out both her and her dad's outfits (so they could match).  Next year he'll have 3 little girls with him all day.

I realized how much my girls are "flatlanders".  We drove on an overpass that took us up and over the freeway.  They were so excited about how high they were!  haha!  I asked them if they remember seeing mountains, they said "yes, we have one by our house!"  We don't.  Instead we have an old garbage dump that has been covered with grass.  So ya, flatlanders.

We had some geese that spend a lot of time in our yard this spring.  I didn't let the girls get close enough for them to bite us, but they did hiss as us a few times.  Mean birds.  We enjoyed the spring sunshine and finally being able to play outside.  We found a toad stuck in our flower planter.

There was a big storm one night that knocked down a bunch of branches.  The next morning was Sunday, so Jake took the girls to church (Skye and I had a fever).  On their way to church a tree branch fell and almost hit the minivan.  Luckily Jake's race car training prepared him for that moment and he swerved out of the way just in time.  Just a little scrape on the side of the van.  Then when they got to church the power was out.  They had a battery powered microphone that they used at the pulpit.  They had a short sacrament meeting in the dark then sent everyone home.  (here's the tree branch that fell).

Skye discovered grass and outdoor playsets this spring.  She loves swinging (for soooo long).  Thank goodness the twirls are good at pumping their own legs now so I only have one kid to push.  Skye also loves her plasma car.  She doesn't know how to wiggle it, but she uses her legs to move forward.  I have tried to teach her but she doesn't like me touching the car while she's riding.

Jake's trying to get Scarlett into dirt biking.  His dream would be to have a whole fleet of bikes for each member of our family.  We'll see.  But the rule is that you have to ride a 2 wheel bike first before dirt biking.  Jake put a tether rope on the back and he ran next to her while she was getting used to it.  He's restricted the bike a lot so it doesn't go very fast right now.
Here's a little video of Scarlett riding around our yard:

The younger girls got to make fresh lemonade at preschool.  They were so excited!  Then their teacher traced their bodies on a big sheet of paper then they used markers to decorate it.  If you look close you will see a big line from their mouth to the bottom of the paper.  What is that?  It's "throw up".  Yes, my girls decided to decorate their pictures with vomit.  haha!

Scarlett woke up in the middle of the night yelling for dad.  Thank goodness.  He went in there and she had pooped her pants!!!  She said she had to go poop before bed, but she thought she could hold it.  Jake took care of everything.  I love Scarlett's personality though, I would have been mortified but not Scarlett.  She thinks it's funny and has told many people about her fecal fiasco.

Here are some photos of the girls playing together.  Skye thinks she is so much older than she is!

Jaide: "Can I have my green cup in the picture so everyone knows it is me, Jaide?"
I often hear the twirls talk about "front toots" and "back toots".  Gross!  and hilarious.

Siena: "Just listen to my boice [voice] to know my name: 'hiya hiya'." (while talking higher than normal, trying to trick me into thinking she is Jaide).

Skye's nursery leader was wearing a yellow dress, Skye pointed to it and said "Siena"!

Here are some fun times with our friends...

We went to Lyla's Vampirina Birthday Party.  It was a great excuse for me to pull out our Halloween clothes and accessories!  (My shirt in the photo appropriately states: Halloween is Everyday)

I love that Scarlett came up with an April Fool's joke. You guys better watch out, because she will only get more clever with those.

It's fun to see your girls' activities, even with all the references to bodily functions. Their giggles are awesome!

Do you think Ford will ever host a Take-Your-Nephew-To-Work day? Heber would die to be photographed with some of those cars! ;-)
