For my birthday Laura took me to IKEA for lunch and their amazing chocolate cake. She also convinced me to see if the twirls would play in the drop off kid area. I was convinced that they wouldn't let me leave - but they did! They played for 30 minutes until I got buzzed to get them (one got hurt and couldn't be consoled). I considered it a win!
My birthday landed on a Saturday! That in and of itself is a gift! Jake let me sleep in, then I spent the afternoon cutting and coloring my hair. I got to spend time chatting on the phone with Snort Sauce. Jake bought me an Arby's french dip sub. It was relaxing and recharging.
We had dinner and the girls gave me their gifts. Jake took them shopping and they picked out a necklace for me. When they were in the jewelry shopping Siena went over to Scarlett and Jaide and said "You guys, you HAVE to come see this!" It was a full display of yellow jewelry! haha! / I also spent a good portion of the day with an ice pack wrapped around my chest. I had slowly weaned Skye during the month of May. The last week I nursed her once every 36 hours, then 48 hours, then finally I stopped completely. On my birthday it caught up with me. It took another 24 hours for the pain to subside.
Jake asked what I wanted to do on my birthday. I thought it would be fun to try and escape room with just the two of us. I found one in Canton - The Pirate's Curse. It's rated the hardest difficulty level for the escape rooms in the area. It was so fun!! We spent 54 minutes working together and having fun. It was fun to actually solve all the puzzles together - in a group you don't get to be a part of all the clues. The "gamemaster" watches the whole thing on security cameras and provides clues when necessary. He spoke with us after and said we were some of the smartest people he's ever seen. He usually has to help walk people through solving some of the puzzles but the only clues he had to give us were to help us find the physical puzzle pieces to use. I think that's the disadvantage of only 2 people - not as many eyes to find things. But it was a nice compliment. He also said most teams with only 2 people don't finish in time. We celebrated our narrow escape with molten lava cake from Chilis. We chatted with the waitress while we were eating our appetizers about the escape room for my birthday, then when we ordered dessert she came out with a little group and sang to me! haha! I thought it was so cute that she did that on her own.
Jake's birthday was less exciting, poor guy. It landed on a crazy busy Thursday. We spent most of the evening at Scarlett's school watching her musical (more on that soon). It was a lot of logistics and routine. But he did get to relax and go mountain biking that weekend. And I made a Cinco-Leche Cake for him - so it wasn't all bad. It's funny how our birthday requests are almost exclusively naps and desserts. haha!
The girls had fun picking out presents for dad (including a little gum ball machine, a sound effect button machine, and a frisbee/ball toy).
YAY! We're one year older and wiser (?) too! And if you ever forget how old we are, just ask the twirls and Skye how old they are and add 30! ;-)

Happy Birthdays to you both! I think you can tell when you're an adult.....a nap and a real dessert feel like the most amazing gifts. :-)
