Scarlett loves to wear my necklaces.
Mix & Match Day (in honor of Dr. Seuss)
One side braid, one side a bun. Giana's mom sent me this photo of them at school.
Crazy Hair Day
Scarlett wanted a rainbow in her hair. I spent a lot of time thinking and planning how to make a rainbow. I was happy that we were able to get it done in 30 minutes without any practice run! I used pipe cleaners for the color and the structure. I found gold sequins that I put on a string to use as gold coins about black felt for a pot. I glued cotton balls on white felt for the clouds. Then I mixed blue glitter with hair gel and put it on her scalp to make the sky.
Construction and destruction.
I got this text from Mrs. Henry. So fun!
We went to the book fair at the school that afternoon. The twirls wanted crazy hair too. I put their hair in two buns then covered it up with a ton of hair bows. I told them they were "yellow and green flower gardens".Camping
Dress in your camping clothes (this vest came from Braxtyn!) I did her puppy ears with a hidden part.
Crazy Socks
She's had these "Marshall" socks for two years, glad they could be put to good use!
St. Patrick's Day
The day before St. Patty's at pickup Scarlett's teacher said "I can't wait to see what your hair is for St Patrick's day." haha! I told her it was going to just be a pony tail but now the pressure's on! So this is what we came up with. My take on a 3-leaf clover. Now a joke from my mom:
Why are you not supposed to iron your clovers? You're not supposed to press your luck! hardy har har!
DDD (Dress Down Day) (Mom Mystery Reader)
For DDD Scarlett wore her new shirt from Grandma Glauser.
I signed up to be a mystery reader in Scarlett's class on her birthday, but school got cancelled that day (more about that in a different post). So I went in on a different day. That morning her teacher gave the class clues about the mystery reader. My clues were: she raced cars as a teenager, she has daughters, she lived in Australia in second grade. At this point her teacher said Scarlett was tentatively raising her hand (she wasn't quite sure, but she thought it was me). The last clue was "she likes to change her hair color." Like 5 different kids all shouted "Scarlett's mom!" haha! I haven't been in her classroom much, but apparently I've made a colorful impression!
I read Rosie Revere, Engineer. It's a super cute book about a little blond girl who likes to engineer! Mrs. Henry sent me these photos.
Afterwards I sat with Scarlett while she ate lunch (they eat lunch in their classroom). One little girl told me she likes how I do Scarlett's hair and she has "no idea how you did that heart in her hair!". Another little boy asked if I remember zipping up his coat (last fall), then he told me he wants me to remember his name for next time (Cleveland). The little twins in her class came and gave me hugs. Another boy asked me where my other 3 girls were. A small group formed around me as they looked at my jewelry, they wanted to know how the t-rex looks like it's going through my ear. I took them out to show them how it worked and they all gasped! haha!
I also got to meet Kody. A few days earlier Scarlett came home and told me: "I'm in love with Kody. I think I will marry him when I grow up cause I think he will protect me if there's a bad guy. He's kind of like a knight. He's very brave." (Me: How do you know he's brave?) "I can tell by his actions." haha oh my! Well during lunch at school, Kody came up to me and told me that Scarlett talks about him. She said "Yes I do, he's handsome. Boys are handsome and girls are .... Royal." :-)

College Shirt Day
Go cougars!
Pajama Day
During parent teacher conferences I won a drawing and Scarlett got invited to eat lunch with the principal. She brought home this invitation from school that day. She was so excited that she copied the entire thing then taped her papers together and hung it up so she wouldn't forget! So cute!
Lunch with the Principal
Scarlett said that all the kids there got to ask the principal a question. Scarlett asked her if she ever had blueberry green smoothies before. haha! (I love our principal by the way, she is awesome!)
Superhero Day
At the beginning of March I took Scarlett to Hob Lob with me (we were getting supplies for her crazy hair). Well she found this iron on patch that said "Scarlet Speedster" and she really wanted it - I mean, it has her name on it after all. I knew that there was a superhero day coming up, so I thought "what the heck." I bought a black shirt to iron it on. She was a little annoyed that there was only one T on Scarlet. So I found another pack of iron on red gems that were stars. I used two of the stars on the sleeves, then I carefully cut the third star in the shape of a T. They don't match exactly, but it seemed to be enough to make her happy.
Mrs. Meldrum told me her friends call her their "mom superhero" cause she is so patient with her 2 girls and does such a great job teaching kindergarten. Well she told me that I'm her "mom superhero" cause of how well I do with my 4 girls. That was so nice of her! I fall short in so many areas and get so hard on myself (especially lately). So that was really nice to hear.
Sisters make the best friends.
PE Clothes
She told Mrs. Meldrum that these are her "airplane pants."
Dress Like a Book Character
Scarlett told me she really wanted to dress like Elsa. Sweet! That was super easy! After school Mrs. Meldrum told me Scarlett asked her "Am I one of the cutest kids in class?" hahaha! Oh my... Luckily her teacher thought that was adorable.
Science Project
Later that day we were back to the school for an after school science experiment. During parent teacher conferences I bid on it during the silent auction. Scarlett kept telling people we were going to go do "potions" haha! Ms. Roberts (teaches 7th and 8th grade science) let me bring the twirls to join in on the fun. They made silly putty and even got to hold the class gecko.
The girls have been enjoying their silly putty!
Family Movie Night
We went to family movie night again. This time we saw Sing! We took showers before and brought dinner and pillows with us. We're learning.
At parent teacher conferences I got to meet with Mrs. Meldrum and Mrs. Henry. They told me that Scarlett "is a delight." They measure every student's reading with an ABC scale. They start the year at "A" and hopefully progress to level "B" by the end of kindergarten. Scarlett tested at level "D". She's the best reader in the class. She's ready to start chapter books. Mrs. Meldrum is letting her borrow her personal collection of Junie B. Jones books. As for math she's already met her year-end goals, so they made new goals for her. Mrs. Meldrum said she will finish kindergarten at a mid-1st grade level.
Families Come Read Day
They had other special things going on in March. For families come read day Mrs. Meldrum said I could bring ALL my girls. There were like 6 small reading groups. I had 4 students in my group (including Scarlett) with the twirls and Skye. We got to sit on the reading rug and we all read for 30 minutes. After the class went to music and I took this photo. Don't let Skye's tears fool you, she was a perfect gem during the whole story time. She just sat on my lap and ate snacks. Actually all the girls did well, it was a fun adventure.

Citizenship
Jake went to the assembly were Scarlett got a perfect citizenship award (they give them out 3 times a year, so far she's got them every time).

Finally, I wanted to end with a tender story. I wasn't going to post it here, but since this is my personal blog-history and I really want to remember it.......
Last week during Scarlett's ballet class they had a parent meeting for the recital. We got our costumes, discussed logistics, paid balances, bought tights, etc... I knew it was going to be crazy so McKayla stayed and babysat the twirls and Skye. Prior to the meeting they sent and email out to the families saying the Mrs. Horvath was going to be coming to the parent meetings this week (she handles all the money for ballet) and that this was her first week back since her daughter, Mrs. Roy, passed away. Ballet was something that they did together and it was going to be a difficult week for her, so please just keep all the conversations to ballet related topics. Ok, I can do that. Well I got in the line to pay my balance. When I got to the front she asked for the dancer's name and I said "Scarlett Glauser." She stopped and looked up at me. Then she asked her coworker to come take over her spot and she waved me into a back room with her. She told me that this week was so difficult, but she decided that no matter what happened she needed to come and meet with me. She wanted to tell me how much the letter I wrote to them meant. It was exactly what they needed. It has been a source of comfort for their family during a time when not many things have brought them comfort. She has made copies and given it to different family members and friends. She said that Katie's brother has been having a difficult time, she gave a copy to his wife to give to him when he was ready. Well he found it on his own and called his mom emotional at the words I wrote. She said that I captured her Katie perfectly. And it has helped them all.
Needless to say that was a very emotional conversation. I was so thankful she shared those precious and tender moments with me. I felt so humbled really to have been a part of that. I remember feeling so apprehensive about writing this letter to a family I didn't know, but I felt so strongly that I needed to do it for them. When I was writing the words, they just flowed out of me. I could remember conversations I had with her so clearly and my thoughts were all organized in a way that was beyond my own talents. I am so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who is mindful of all of us. I have no idea why such a wonderful young girl had to leave this earth life in her prime. But Heavenly Father knew that her family would need those words. They would need to know what an impact she left on so many people. I felt thankful to be an instrument in His hands for that special task.
I spoke with the principal and dean a few days earlier and they were going to present the Roy/Horvath families with the special book I put together in a few weeks. I'm so excited for them to get that book! It is filled with stories, memories, and impressions that their daughter left on so many people. I hope that it will bring more comfort as they see how others were touched by her life.

WOW you are amazing! I can't believe you can do all of that with their hair.
You are an awesome mom. We all have doubts and feel inadequate, but I think that is just because we love our kids so much and want to be our best for them and we're human and can't do everything perfectly all the time. I certainly view you and your girls as a wonderful example of what motherhood should be - messy, fun, exhausting, and full of love. :-)
I'm so glad that you followed through when you were inspired to write that letter. Isn't it amazing how our small acts of kindness can have such a big impact?
The hair- impressive. The letter- sweet and inspired. Scarlett is much like her mother, when you were in kindergarten they'd have you go in with the first graders for math.
We are very, very grateful that you recognized our Exceptional Young Man and chose to join our family!
This is all so fun! I love that you get really into the dress up days and I need to make sure I do! And I didn't know you lived in Australia!!! Tell me about that next time we hang out. (Also, this is Ashley, not Jordan. obvs.)
