Random August

I can't believe how fast summer went!  We tried to grasp every last minute we could: parks, outdoor picnics, building grass "nests", drawing on the cement with yellow dandelions, playing in the water table, etc...

Jake loves to take the girls outside after work.  One FHE we made s'mores.  We quickly learned that the girls can't handle the power of the grill and Jake had to man all the mallows.

I went to get an apple one day and this is what I found in our fridge... I guess they just wanted a little snack!

Scarlett told me "Mom, I made this for you!"  I asked her how she knew to spell my name and she said "I just sounded it mmm-oooo-mmmm."  Oh my!  What a little smarty pants!

Jake often would forget to tell me that he was on his way home from work.  Which is no big deal except I like to time dinner so we can eat when he gets home.  I found this app that not only lets you see the location of your family members, but it also notifies you if they arrive/leave different locations you can set up.  So I set it up to notify me when he left work and it works like a charm!  I especially loved it when he was driving back and forth from Chicago all the time.  And there are times Jake will come home and we're not there so he just opens the app and finds us.  Some people feel like it's a breach of privacy, but seriously - what are you trying to hide?  Anyways, the app had an update and when I went to update it I saw a review from a year ago with Jake's name.  I scrolled down and this is what I saw:
haha!  He's in big trouble!  :-)

We had a lot of fun with our friends in August.  We went to IKEA for lunch and ice cream with the Sawayas, had a backyard pool party with the Furnesses, babysat little Noah, and even matched Abby - Go Cougars!  When Blake came over one day I heard this conversation...
Blake: "Scarlett why did you want to be in that place that you were in for a long time and not in this house?"
Scarlett: "We were in Utah cause I wanted to see the pretty flowers and I missed my Aunt Jami."
So sweet!

We had a little bday celebration for Ashley.  At dinner Laura asked the girls: How old do you think Ashley is?  Scarlett answered "29!"  haha sometimes she's a little too observant!

We had fun hanging around the house too.  The girls helped me make cookies with my new cookie scoop - I was excited to buy it cause of it's little rack and pinion design haha!  The girls had a water tea party while I was getting ready one day.  I heard Scarlett exclaim "This tea is divine!"  Cute!

Scarlett's new word is "whatever" it makes Jake and I laugh every time.  I straightened her hair for church one day and she looked soooo much older!!!  The girls all wanted to wear their sunglasses in church (side note: they don't usually get their binkies outside of their crib but church is during nap time so for a few weeks we let them use them as an experiment, but it didn't work as well as we hoped.)  Also, the girls LOVE wearing accessories!  Girly girls who also love monster trucks!

Swimmy swim swim!  Laura is our local swim instructor/life guard.  We took advantage of the warm weather and our friends who have access to outdoor pools and had several lessons.  I was impressed at how Scarlett really started to swim.  We need to do more this winter.  The twirls just loved being in the water - especially when I would sing "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam" and lift them out of the water on the "beam" part.  After I would finish singing it they would yell "BEAM! BEAM!" to start again.  My arms were so sore!  I don't feel comfortable taking 3 little girls to the pool by myself so I brought Abby each time.  She is such a responsible babysitter.  She stayed glued on whoever she was watching and was so much help to me.  I really felt safe taking the girls with her eyes watching them too.

So much fun!!

I would have loved to see whoever's face after the bite out of the orange! Ha! Too funny!

What an awesome app. I'll have to get it. I run into the same issue with Paul forgetting to let me know he's on his way home.

Good for you on getting caught up! I would have scrapped those months and had them be a mystery for all time. :)

What a cool app! I always ask JC when he'll be home and he just says, "usual time", which means sometime between 4 and 9 pm. So....not helpful. And I try the same thing - I want to eat as soon as he is home, because we have to get the early sleeper to bed on time or he is a monster the next morning. Drives me nuts.

I never used to take my kids swimming alone unless we were at a pool with a lifeguard, and then we'd just stay in the kiddie wading pool area. Too risky! I once went with cousin Adam and we had one kid just step into the pool where neither of us could grab him quickly and it was terrifying and awful... Even now that they're all strong swimmers I sit on the edge of the pool and listen to a podcast and just count kids and worry. So I'm glad you have a great helper! Nothing like an afternoon at the pool to wear the kids out. :-)

And our fridge used to be full of one bite missing apples! I forgot about that. Haha! I guess we've outgrown that stage...I think I'm the only apple eater here now.
