Labor Day: Stake Picnic & Splash Pad

Every Labor Day our stake throws a huge picnic with all sorts of games and events.  It's an extravaganza!  The previous years it's been difficult to load up everyone's plate among all the chaos and it's the time of year that bees are really irritating.  So this year we fed everyone before we arrived.  Best picnic ever!  The only downside was the 90 degree humid weather.  The girls liked playing with the giant bubbles, playing on the playground, walking around the fire truck, and eating snow cones.

When we were chatting with the firefighters and I asked the question that was on my mind: do I really need to wear my medical ID bracelet?  He told me that yes, when they come upon someone who is unconscious they check for an ID.  They look for other signs of overdose, blood sugar, anaphylaxis, etc.. but the bracelet can help them make a swift diagnosis and often in these moments every second counts.  Ugh.  Fine... I'll wear my silly bracelet.  But he also told me something else interesting: if you are unconscious or injured in your own home they look on the refrigerator for a "File of Life" form with your medical information.  I had no idea that this was even a thing!!!  I went home an researched it that night.  I made papers that listed all our medications, medical history, personal information.  I also included a page with a BUNCH of emergency contact phone numbers so that if I'm whisked away to the hospital the paramedics know who to call to come watch the girls.  I printed a label and glued it on an envelope and put the papers inside.  Everyone should have one!

After the picnic we were all melting.  So for FHE that night we took the girls to the splash pad - the last day of it's season.  It was so fun to see the girls playing and being sooo cute together!  Scarlett made a bunch of friends (she is not scared to go up to the older kids and introduce herself).  It was fun to people-watch all the different families.  There was even a mom sitting by us smoking a full on hooka!

The twirls filling up their cups and toward the end I caught Scarlett giving herself a little pep talk before her trick:

I started recording cause Jaide was doing this silly dance where she held her arms behind her:

I totally have a medical emergency file hanging on my kitchen cabinet! I will have to make a File of Life cover page for it so people know where to find it. :-) Thanks for sharing!

Splash pad was my favorite, because I didn't have to worry about them drowning, just got to relax and enjoy. :-)
