Then there was the infamous flu fiasco of 2014. The first one to get it was Scarlett. My dad, Scarlett and I were all loaded up in the car to go pick up Jake from the airport. At the last minute my dad decided to stop for fuel - I'm so glad he did! Cause right when we were headed to the freeway on ramp we heard a weird sound coming from the back seat. I looked back and Scarlett was throwing up all over herself. I've never seen her throw up that much! We hurried back home and my dad left to get Jake while my mom and I cleaned up the mess (which luckily was mostly confined to her carseat. That evening she threw up several more times and complained about her back hurting. But the next day she was just fine.
We were hoping it was a fluke illness that the rest of us would avoid. But luck was not on our side. Jami and I got it next. Fortunately Jami is a pharmacy and she had a supply of zofran to get us through the worst of it without too discomfort. But the back pain was almost as bad as the nausea.
Then the twirls got it. The worst hit them on my birthday. Jake was gone most of that day (post coming). But my mom and Jami just held them and cleaned them every time they threw up. I went and got a 90 min massage (which I thought was a long time but went by so fast!) Then my mom asked what else I wanted to do that day - I just wanted to be alone for a little while (funny that has become my bday request). So I went to the mall and found a few new shirts (and realized that I'm so out of touch with the current fashions - crop tops???)
The babies were still feeling lousy that evening but we continued with the festivities. James and Hailey watched the girls for a bit (and then got the flu a few days later - sorry guys!) We combined mine and Jake's bday dinners that night. I told Scarlett that I was 28. Her reply: "wow, that would be too many balloons!" haha! Then she poked me and said "Mom, you're bouncy." lovely.
Scarlett made me a beautiful card.
Jake got me tickets to see Queen when they come to Detroit in July. I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED!!! (Queen is my fave band).
By this time the twirls hadn't eaten for like 8 hours and they threw up several times that evening. They didn't have wet diapers either. The boys gave them both a blessing. I love the priesthood. How wonderful that righteous priesthood holders have the authority to call down blessings from heaven!
I was worried about the babes being dehydrated and after the blessings I felt that we needed to take them to the ER. So Jake and I loaded them up and drove them to Orem Community Hospital (while the rest of the family enjoyed my bday dessert). The doctor said they didn't need IVs (yet). But we needed to stop the vomiting before we got to that point. I was worried that I brought them in too soon and he assured me that it's much better to come in now rather then wait til they have no saliva/tears - cause at that point they will be there much longer and it's really hard to get an IV in a dehydrated baby. So I felt better about the expensive evening this was turning into. They decided to give them zofran. I. love. that. stuff. Seriously, I ate it like candy when I was prego with the twins. I was allowed 4mg every 6 hours - I would set an alarm on my phone for the next dose and I would sit and watch it count down like the last hour cause it was wearing off. Anyways... They got a 4mg dissolvable tablet (you just put them under your tongue). They cut it into 4 pieces and gave each baby 1mg. It worked great. They were able to sleep and eat some the next day. They gave us a prescription for more zofran and we used all of them over the next few days (the flu seemed to linger in everyone for 3-5 days). I'm glad we took them to the ER - even if it wasn't the most enjoyable bday - at least the twirls felt better.
This seems to fit with the theme of this post... so Jami has to give herself a shot at 8:30 pm every night. While I was there she let me do it. I don't know why I thought it was fun.... but thanks Jami for trusting me!

Hahaha! You look crazy evil giving Jami her shot! :-)
Sorry for the sickness. When they're little it seems like it never ends. Then, when you think you're through it, the next thing hits. Wait until they start school. Ugh. Hopefully you're all better now!!
I had that same flu about the same time. Backache, stomachache, exhausted. Yuck. I'm glad I only had to deal with me, though, and not a bunch of babies while I was sick.
The flu hit us too and I thought it was from you guys, but ours was 24 hours with no back pain, so I guess I'll blame someone else. Glad you had so much fun in Utah. ;)
