The Twirls Turned 3!!!

I spent so much of my pregnancy convinced that I could will myself into labor.  A week before the twirls' bday Jake asked me "should we buy them birthday presents?"  I guess reality set in and I had to admit that baby girl wasn't coming when I wanted her to, so we should focus on the twirls' bday.  So we prepared a party in their honor.  Since I am 9 months pregnant and huge I decided to keep it low-key.

We started their party day (the Saturday before their bday) by taking them to the grocery store to pick out balloons.  (you can see them in the background of this photo).  Then we had a nice video chat with Russia.

When we asked the twirls whose bday it was they would reply like this
    Jaide: "me and Nena!"
Siena: "Nena and Baby!" (she always uses first person and she called Jaide baby)
When asked how old they are turning: "I'm free!" (aka three)

Scarlett asked Dad to help her make a sign that said "don't go through the ribbons" (before the party) I love that she used a spoon to make the handle of the sign.  Apparently Siena didn't get the message.

Pizza time!  I love Kaylie's new glasses!

Bubble time!  Look at how happy James is!

The twirls love swinging!  Siena always says "higher" and Jaide says "slower" - I just push them the same amount and they are both happy.  haha!

Mini cupcakes and ice cream cones:

Look at that chocolate 'stache!

Have you ever seen these ribbon pinatas?  I first saw them years ago at cousin Heber's birthday party - ironically the twirls were born on his birthday!  Instead of smacking the pinata with a stick everyone grabs a ribbon, then at the same time everyone pulls.  One of the strings opens the trap door and releases all the candy!  Everyone's happy and no one gets smacked in the face by a blindfolded candy-hungry demon child!

Playing with their new monster trucks:

A fun-filled day!

Later that evening we sang to them and let them blow out candles (the wind prevented us from doing this earlier).

Siena leaned over her candle, then I noticed she held her eye.  I looked at her eye but everything seemed fine.  I thought it was just smoke in her eye.  Well after bath time I noticed that she actually singed her eyelashes!  Oh my goodness!  What a close call!  I'm so grateful that she was't hurt - all while the adults sat feet from her!  (PS I love how Jaide is her own cheerleader!  She's always great at acknowledging her own successes.  "I did it!")

On Sunday we let the girls open a present each.  Then we spent the day playing with them.  Look at that huge belly!  YIKES!  Side note - that shirt I'm wearing is actually supposed to be a night gown that used to go to my mid-thigh....

Monday was their actual birthday.  We took them to Jungle Java for dinner and lots of fun.  Jake and Grammy climbed in the play place with them (it's huge in there!).  My mom said every time she would help the twirls with something that would say "tank you!"  So polite!  And at one point one twirl sat on a little zebra statue and turned to Jake and asked for a "coin coin!"  haha!

Jake taking a turn in my seat while the girls played - nonstop!  They were soooo sweaty with pink cheeks!

We went home and opened more presents.  It felt like a lot of gifts, but I guess it is - presents for two kids!

The bakery lady at Kroger asked if I wanted to put rings on their cake.  I said I wanted 3 Mickey Mouse rings - all the same so my kids wouldn't fight.  She put 3 sets of different characters.  The girls LOVED it!

Blowing out candles:

Enjoying their cake after a fun-filled day.  Jaide does this funny thing if she's tired - she will continue playing/eating/whatever but with her eyes closed.  Haha!  Silly girl!

Now that Skye is here, does Siena call Jaide by her name, or is she still Baby?

It cracks me up that celebrating their birthday over three days was your version of low key!
