9 Months Old

I can't believe the twins are already 9 months old!  They've been out of me longer than they were inside me, but being prego felt sooooo much longer.  I took them to the doctor this week for their checkup and shots.  Dr. Tosto was so impressed at how good they are!  I told her I was lucky that they are such sweethearts, but she said not to discount our parenting.  Yes, there is the nature component but a lot of it is nurture.  They pick up a lot from being in a calm and happy home (or in my case, sitting in front of the tv all day in their bouncers chewing on puffs....)
At 9 months they are:

Siena
  • Height: 2 ft 1.25 in (0%)
  • Weight: 14 lb 15.0 oz (5%)
  • Head: 42.50 cm (15%)
Jaide
  • Height: 2 ft 1.25 in (0%)
  • Weight: 14 lb 11.0 oz (3%)
  • Head: 42.50 cm (15%)
So they shrunk in height a little bit.  Dr. Tosto wasn't too concerned with that since the measurement method isn't very accurate or repeatable (depends on how the nurse does it).  I thought it was interesting that they are measuring the same in everything except weight - and even the weight difference is getting smaller!  They really like to be identical!!!

Dr. Tosto said they looked great in development (maybe a little behind but that's cause they're really 6ish weeks younger than their age and she's not worried).  However, she was pretty concerened about their weight gain - or lack thereof.  She said that they haven't gained as much weight as she would like to see.  So I have to go back in 6 weeks for a weight check.  Until then I have to add an extra nursing in everyday.  She was concerned that maybe my milk supply is going down.  Lately the girls have been sleeping 12 hours a night so I've pumped had to pump while my body adjusts and I've had a lot of extra milk.  So I don't think it's that, but I will try and pump just to make sure it's not.  I also need to add another solid food meal or two each day.  She wants me to feed them high fat foods: cheese, avocado, scrambled eggs made with cottage cheese, olive oil and butter on stuff, etc... Luckily they are really into food now so I don't think it will be an issue.  Today they had bananas, cheese, bread, baby food, peaches, and avocado.  Jaide is more picky and will shake her head no if she doesn't like something and usually Siena is up for eating whatever.  If you have any ideas of great calorie-dense baby snacks, please let me know!!!  :-)

They are starting to play well and entertain themselves - yay!  That makes my day more manageable.  They still scream if I'm not in the same room, but at least I don't have to hold them all day.

I know I mentioned it before, but they really like to be identical.  I often come in their room and find them in the same position.  In this picture you should know that I always put them to bed with their head at the opposite end of their cribs.  So they both flipped 180deg and rolled onto the same side.  And last week (Jan 30) they both go their top, right tooth.  The tooth seriously poked through the same time.  Identical!  The next day Jaide's other front tooth started poking through, I'm sure Siena's won't be too far behind!

Just chilling holding my girls... basically this is what I'm doing most of the time they're awake.

This picture is a good example of Jaide's binky preference.  Every time I put it in her mouth she instantly grabs it and flips it upside-down.  So when I remember I just put it in that way.

This video is an example of how my girls roll their r's while crying.  They both do it and I think it's darling!  Arrrrriba!

I left a lengthy comment on FB. Sorry….should have checked the blog first to see what you're doing.

I say all you can eat ice cream for you. That should really be the solution to every problem.

What a fancy cry! They sound like little helicopters.

You ended up getting another matching highchair for the first one you had! How funny we ended up with the exact same two highchairs. AND we LOVE them. Thanks for the tip. I love the same way they are sleeping in their cribs that is pretty amazing. What a magical life!

Love their little cry. Too cute!

I don't know how you keep up with all three of them. I barely can keep up with my own life with zero children. You are doing so wonderfully well!!

I'm very proud of the girls for sleeping 12 hours a night--that's such a wonderful skill for them to be learning. Sleep long. Sleep often.
