A Couple of 1st Times

Jake here - Jenni let me know it was my turn to do a posting, so here goes nothing. We've been trying really hard to find fun things to do outside of our apartment and realized it might be necessary to try new things found in Connecticut.

While watching TV, Jenni saw that Monster Jam was coming to our very own Hartford. She explained that as a young 13 year old she had the pleasure of going Monster Jam in SLC. I explained that although I did have a paper route when I was younger it didn't supply enough funds for me to go to such a classy event like this. Seeing as we now both have jobs that pay more than my little paper route we decided to attend.

It was pretty exciting. We soaked in the entire experience by getting some hot dogs, drinks, and churros.

A couple of weeks after Monster Jam we decided to go out to lunch to a restaurant recommended by one of our coworkers. On our way home we passed one of those pottery shops where you walk in, paint some pottery, let them fire it for you, and pick it up later. Neither one of us have ever done that, so another 1st for us!

Last week we went snowboarding with some friends from work. It was Jenni's first time and she did awesome. By the end of the night she was able to control the board enough to get all the way down the bunny hill.

We also recently chaparoned a church dance for the first time. It was an 80's dance, so Jenni crimped her hair and I wore a colorful tie (I felt like a tie would give me autority.)

Alright, well since this post has taken me two weeks to complete, you're getting one more story as a bonus. This is the tale of our own Friday the 13th! It all started at work when one of our coworkers let us know that TGI Fridays had a two for one entree deal going on. We printed off the coupon for the deal and later that night we headed over to the local TGI Fridays for some fine dining.

After being seated, Jenni whipped out the coupon and presented it to our waitress. The waitress took a look at it and asked, "Oh, what's this?"

We were surprised by her question seeing as the coupon explained exactly what we were after. I smugly asked, "Is this not a TGI Fridays?"

She replied, "This is Ruby Tuesday." *awkward silence* "Do you guys still want to order?"

We left and decided we'd check our coupon book for another potentially great deal on dinner. We were in luck; there was a coupon for half off pizza at the Wooster Street Pizzereia. We headed on over and were promptly seated. Again Jenni pulled out the pizza coupon and presented it to our waitress. She took a look at it and said, "You can't use this coupon here. It's for Whooster Street Pizzaria, not Wooster Street Pizzaria. We had been tricked once again. Anyway we stayed and ate our full price pizza like a couple of suckers.

Well, that's all for now. We'll see if this blog ever gets updated again.

It's about time!

Glad to hear an update. I can understand mixing up "Whooster" and "Wooster," but I'm just really not sure how you ended up in a Ruby Tuesday when you were going to TGI Friday's.

Too funny!

Loved your creative dates. So did you two wear ear plugs during the monster truck show? And I loved the pottery, who painted the red-black one. WOW. How did you get the lines so stragiht?
That is wild about the restaurant faux pax; I think one of those pizza places has a name infringement on the other and should go to court. I bet alot of people get fooled.
Good to see you are having a great time. Check your e-mail where I will leave a few family info updates.

I suspect that somewhere, on someone's blog, is a posting about the funny thing that happened on Friday when they were waiting tables at Ruby Tuesday.

This just proves to me that you two are not ready to live so far away from your parents!!!

Where were your helmets in the snow boarding picture?

Glad you two found fun things to do outside of the apartment. TMI

Laughed out loud. Glad to hear you're getting out. That is something we don't do nearly enough of. Hopefully when the kids get older.

The pottery thing was super cool! You guys have some crazy painting skills. :-)

Love the stories! I'm glad Jenni's bring some classy activities like truck rallies to your life. I too am curious about who painted which goblet. My guess is Jake the blue, Jenni the red. I can't believe you'd been married more than a year and she'd never been boarding before! Did anyone suspect you two were actually adults at the dance and not some of the kids? Did you get hit on by 14 year olds? And yes, I love the restaurant story. We've been living on the free Arby's sandwich coupons lately. Gotta love coupons that allow you to print an unlimited number! Luckily for us, we can read and have managed to actually go to an Arby's each time we wanted to redeem it.

You crazy kids crack me up!!!

How embarrassing to get up and leave Ruby Tuesday's. I would of sucked it up and bought the meal.

Sounds like you are having tons of fun away from the house.

Love & miss ya

PS. I need some email addresses of some family members so I can read their blogs like....Lauralee, Natalie, Emily and who ever else is private. Thanks

Dang! (Sorry for the strong language.) Christy beat me to my comment by about 40 minutes. I was going to say that yours must be true love since Jake married a non-snowboarder. But I'm sure he knew Jenni had it within her all along. I never left the bunny hill for my first time skiing, and I only went down 1 1/2 times. I went through one lady's legs and ended up taking my skis off and tramping across the hill in my boots, which got me some dirty looks and rude comments from other skiers.

The restaurant mix-up was great! I guess your brains for numbers didn't translate to reading. ;o) JK Kent and I once got up and left a restaurant when it's menu was more pricey than we had anticipated. Wait, that's happened twice. Embarrassing both times, but we probably saved $40 or more each time.

Thanks for keeping us updated!

You guys are so fun--we HAVE to get together. It's warmer here, how CT looking? We are looking forward to a sweet hike @ the Dinosaur park, a fun filled adventure at the Kidcity museum, and hopefully some really great people will let us crash on their living room floor--even though Abby snores! Looks like you guys are having lots of adventures--mind if we tag along one weekend?

Oh, and I LOVE the 80's dance pics. I don't know which I was more offended from, when I was mistaken for a kid, or the next time when someone thought I was a grandma...teenagers!

Hilarious restaurant story, I loved it! Adam and Carl once found a coupon for a free P-zookie (cookie with ice cream and carmel) at Firehouse Pizza. It was in the USU school paper, and they made me and Jenny drive them up to the school while they hoarded at least a hundred papers and packed them home in our trunk so we could cut out all the coupons. Ahh couponing. Someday I'm just going to be rich. :)

So when TGI Fridays wouldn't take your Ruby Tuesday coupon, did you go somewhere else for hot fudge sundaes? (Ha ha.)

Early in our marital career we took a big group of couples to a buy one-get one free stake dinner at Snowbird. Luckily, it was a Snowbird coupon we were using, so we actually got food. I don't think the restaurant management was too thrilled with us, but they were good about it.
