Rosie the Riveter - Guinness World Record

Do you remember when we participated in the Guinness World Record for the most Rosie the Riveters two years ago?  Well the record got broken last year so it was time to win it back.  I was excited to hear it was still right by our house so we could all attend.  I mentioned it to Hailey and she said that they would drive up and join us!  I jokingly suggested Jake should dress up, but he actually wasn't opposed to the idea.  He said that the Ford website was advertising it for all employees to participate.  I told James and Jake that they could be "Brosies" hahaha!  I posted that name on the event website and it even caught on!

James and Hailey came to our house with Juniper for less than 24 hours - just long enough for this fun event.  The night before the adults all stayed up and watched Lore while I ironed 10 shirts and 10 bandanas (that Berlyn helped me sew earlier in the week).  When we got to the event we walked around to the line.  Two different photographers approached us to take some photos.  Including this cool photo of us in front of the fire engine.  We even saw a pickup parked out front in costume haha!  As soon as we walked in the building it started to rain - we definitely had luck on our side that day.  I love that photo of Jake with his girls.  This is what happens when you are a dad of 4 girls!

Our luck continued when we got to our seats - we happened to be in the very front row!  This year the event was held at EMU's convention center, much more comfortable than the aircraft hangar last time.  They said they would have food but they ran out.  Thankfully I had brought in a bunch of snacks and a water bottle that we all shared.  Grammy sent the girls these little Halloween coloring art projects that I brought - they were a lifesaver.  There was so much time just sitting and waiting.  There was a little girl behind us that was literally bored to tears.  I gave her one of our art projects and she was happy the rest of the time.  I just wish we had packed more food for the grown ups.

For the official record we had to stand together for the official count - five minutes.  During the five minutes we sang the national anthem and then they had the 55 original Rosies come on the stage while they discussed their importance in our nation's history.  It was very touching.

All 10 of us, 8 Rosies and 2 Brosies!  I even made little stickers to go on our collars to match the original Rosie poster.

James and Jake wore their bandanas Tupac style.  Look at all that girl power!

One of the biggest reasons Jake was ok with this Brosie thing was that he was going to be in a stadium full of thousands of people all dressed the same.  No one would ever even really notice that he was there.  Imagine our surprise when we pulled up the news website later that day and the very first picture they have on the article is Jake, front and center.  hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They even spelled our names right (even if they added 3 years to my age).

We showed up in other news photos too.  Can you spot Hailey and me in this photo?  What about Siena in the other photo?

Here are some more news articles and photos from the event.  I love the photo of the original Rosies.  I'm excited for when we get our official Guinness Record Certificates!  We can do it!

Thousands of Rosies turn 'We can do it!' to 'We did it!'

The original Rosie the Riveter, Rose Will Monroe, worked as a riveter at the Willow Run Aircraft Factory in Ypsilanti building B24 bombers for the U.S. military during World War II. Rosie the Riveter became a symbol of women moving into the workforce and filling factory jobs traditionally held by men, who were away at war.
"I just want Michigan to be recognized as a place where Rosie the Riveter abides and has that pride," said Beatty, who ended the gathering with a roaring song that called on the crowd to, "Roll up your sleeves and follow me! We're going to save this factory!"
At the event were more than 55 original "Rosies," according to event organizers.
