Since we reached our out of pocket maximum this past year we decided to get Skye, Jake and me allergy tested.
Skye was the first one to get tested. Luckily she doesn't appear to have any allergies! That's awesome!
Then it was my turn. Since pregnancy can reset allergies and asthma each time, I was curious to see what the results were. The allergist came in after my test and told me "well, it looks like you have bad allergies." That coming from a guy who sees people with allergies all day long. Yikes! I did this cool test where you stay in a glass chamber that's pressure controlled and do some breathing tests. With knowing the pressure you can calculate the volume in the lungs. After the test they said "it looks like you have asthma." haha. My numbers are low and I have trouble moving the air in and out of my lungs at a normal rate. But both my back tests and blood work showed that I'm not allergic to tree nuts anymore!!!!! YAY!!!! I still can't eat them, but next time I go back we're going to make a plan to start trying them again. This is crazy! Pregnancy is so weird!!!
Jake got his back tested too. The doctor told him that he "lit up like a Christmas tree" and "you actually have pretty impressive allergies." Luckily all our girls don't have the combination of our allergies. Moral of the story: we should probably hire someone to mow our grass.
The doctor told us that we're both great candidates for allergy shots. I did shots as a teenager, but apparently they've found that the combination of allergens they used 15 years ago actually cancelled each other out. So that was an expensive waste of time. Now they don't combine the allergens, they just give you more shots but they actually work. I learned about allergy shots.... so basically the theory is that your body will naturally heal itself of all allergies if it's given enough time (not food allergies). All allergy shots do is accelerate that process. One year of shots is about equal to 20 years of natural allergen exposure. They are 90% effective nowadays. Pretty cool stuff. I think Jake and I are going to give it try. Wish us luck!

I am SO ALLERGIC to everything that grows here and allergy shots have SAVED me. I couldn't leave the house - like not even to get the mail - without my eyes swelling shut and my eyelids were always cracked and bleeding in the spring. After my first like 4 months of shots, spring came and I was just slightly itchy but felt great. Huge pain to go, totally worth the investment.
