I had several fun ideas for costumes this year. In retrospect I know where I made my mistake. I shouldn't have taken Scarlett with me to the costume store - especially at the end of the day while she was hungry and tired. I couldn't pick out anything without major tears from our little lady. Finally she found these lolly pop wings and a wand that she couldn't live without. Not really willing to put up a fight I just decided to buy them and figure out a theme later. That's when we came up with Candy Land. The first order of business was introducing the game to Scarlett. We borrowed it from a friend and she loves it! Her attention span is about 3 minutes, but still we have an enjoyable family activity for those 180 seconds.
I spent the next few weeks gathering random pieces to assemble our costumes. I bought more tulle than the legal limit and spent waaay too much time in the Hob Lob Christmas section - but it finally came together! I was hot gluing and sewing last minute pieces right before our ward party.
Jake was King Kandy, I was Mr. Mint's wife: Mint Patty, Scarlett was Princess Lolly and the twins were Princess Frostine. I was going to have them be different characters or both be gingerbread babies... but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make little tiny snowflake crowns!
Our ward party was a lot of fun! The kids in our ward instantly knew what our theme was "CANDY LAND!" One girl came up to me and told me that our costumes were her favorite, another friend told us we won the award for most original idea. And all night long we had little kids coming up to us and chatting - kids that we don't even know! One little girl even came to me and asked if I knew where her mom was! haha! It was super cute but also a little concerning how trusting they were just cause of our costumes. Something to be aware of and a good reminder to teach our girls about stranger danger.

Jake has several will and won't rules for Halloween costumes. One rule is he won't glue on facial hair (after 2011's uncomfortable mustache). He thought that was the end of the facial hair but he didn't take into account that fact that he married an engineer! I came up with a solution: hang the 'stache off his glasses!Mr. Mint's Wife: Mint Patty
Jake and I took Scarlett out trick or treating on Halloween. Since my parents were in town visiting (during my favorite holiday) the babies didn't have to go out in the cold rain. Scarlett was timid at first, but once she realized people were giving her candy she warmed right up! She was so cute and even remembered to say "thank you."
Our last stop: home. My parents said that the twins were really popular with the kids "you have TWO babies!"
Our little lolly lady. She went straight for the suckers in her candy stash (haha - she's the sucker! She made the mistake of leaving all the chocolate when she went to bed!)
The night before Halloween, Jake was putting Scarlett to bed and they had this conversation: (back story: her favorite show right now is Paw Patrol and they came out with a special Halloween episode which was awesome cause it got her excited to wear her costume and go door to door. She's been asking "watch Spooky Paw Patrol?" several times a day)
Jake: Guess what; tomorrow is Halloween!
Scarlett: Like a Paw Patrol Halloween?
Jake: Yup
Scarlett: We’re gonna be in the TV?!
Jake: Oh..…no, but we get to walk around the neighborhood with our friends..
Scarlett: With Berlyn and Braxtyn!!?
Jake: errrr….no they live too far away..
Scarlett: They have to go to bed then.
Jake: um, oh, ok..... Goodnight Scarlett.

How do you have time to come up with such CUTE costumes. I can't get over the creativity---it's like WOW. You know you're setting a pretty high standard & you have many Halloweens in front of you. This year I purposely didn't buy any chocolate; it made it really easy to give out handfuls of candy that frankly didn't even smell good to me. But I think the kids would love it anyway.
PS - I love the mirror image pix of the twins.
Love it!! How cute! You are so creative!
Amazing, as always!!! What a cute little bunch! And I'm glad your parents could be there for Halloween. How fun!!
AMAZING!!! So clever and what a perfect theme for those sweet little girls.
Loved the costumes!!
Jake's conversation with Scarlett makes me sad.
I must admit that I have not missed watching Spooky Paw Patrol since I've been home. But I am pretty sure I can now recite it verbatim.
Just have to give some kudos to Jacob- what a good sport!
