Now I Know My ABCs

I noticed a few weeks ago that Scarlett is really into letters.  If I wear a shirt with writing on it she sits and points at them.  She's also started noticing the writing on labels around the house.  She's even into singing the ABC song.  Though, her version goes something like this: "B C E E B C E pizza T S T E.."  Ya, that's right... in our house pizza is a letter!  :-)

Then she started bringing me magnetic letters and telling me their names.  More often then not she would call the letter the correct name.  I just thought it was a really freaky coincidence cause seriously, how would my 21 month old baby girl know letters if I haven't taught them to her?  Well, apparently she's learned not to be stifled by my lack of teaching skills.  Watch this video to see what I mean!
I guess all those hours of WordWorld are finally paying off!!!  Thanks PBS!

Scarlett is such a sweetie!  She gives hugs and kisses freely to her mom and dad.  She gets snuggly when drinking her chocolate milk.  She falls asleep in her crib without a fight (usually...).  She still takes a 2 hour afternoon nap (and so do I!)  She cries when dad or mom leave the house - I think Jake likes that she cries when he leaves.  She loves to eat bananas, apples, little cutie oranges, yogurt, string cheese, cereal, pizza, and chocolate.  You can tell when she likes a meal cause she goes "yum, mmmm, nomm nomm nomm" while eating!  She loves to sing - well, she loves to do actions while we sing.  Right now her favorite song is "Once There Was a Snowman" which is fitting for the weather!  And any time I ask her to help me clean up her toys she sings "clean up, clean up".  She's learned to push chairs around the kitchen to reach things on counters (nothing's safe anymore!).  She thinks she can jump really high, but surprisingly she can get both feet off the ground now!  We are learning shapes right now - specifically the circle.  Every time she sees a circle she starts tracing it in the air and she says "round and round".  She loves to talk and uses so many words.  I'm always amazed at what words she knows and how she actually uses them correctly.  Like "mine" (I think she learned that from nursery), "night, night", please: "puh-weese", "show" (aka TV), and "wait!"  She gets "hi" and "high" mixed up (if I ask her if something is high or low, she'll say "high" but then she waves "hi" to it instead of just pointing!)  Anything hot or cold is always "hot".  She uses the word "blue" to mean color or colorful.  We have been working on colors, she isn't always accurate at naming them but she's really good at matching things.  Like if she is wearing a purple shirt then anything she picks up that is purple that day she'll hold to her shirt and say "purple", which sounds more like "bubble".   When she sits in her little ball pit she will throw out the balls in sets of two matching colors.  And I've just learned that she has an easier time falling asleep in new places if they have glow in the dark stars like her bedroom.  We love our little Miss Scarlett!

Ha! What a little smartie. She's so clever--I would say it's good and that she keeps you on your toes, but since you're pregnant, you probably don't need to spend that much time on your toes. :)

Glad you're still getting 2-hour naps though! That sounds AMAZING!!!

What the what?! She knows her letters?! And people say tv turns our brains to mush. Hah! Word world works wonders! (you like my alliteration there?)

We had the same phenomenon happen at our house. I thank Word World and Super Why for teaching Lucas his letters, too :) He had them down before 2 as well :)

Yeah, she's pretty cute and smart. I'll be really impressed when she's reading to the twins...in utero. ;o)

Maybe Scarlett can be the new spokesperson for Word World, kind of like Jared became Subway's guy. Seriously, there are some kindergartners that haven't figured out their letters yet.

As for colors, just don't let her near the laundry if you want to actually get it folded. My kids always loved finding a basket of clean clothes to dump on the floor and sort.
