Random Short Stories...

Jami, Jake, Scarlett and I went to Iceberg for dinner and shakes the other night.  During our meal we thought it would be fun to all 3 hold a spoonful of our shakes in front of the baby to see which flavor she would pick.  We lined up the loaded spoons in front of her face.  She stared at them for a minute, trying to decide what to do.  Then to our astonishment - she grabbed the two outside spoon handles and ate the middle one!  She didn't let go of the other spoons until she had emptied them of their ice cream as well.  Holy cow!!!  She's a little smarty pants!

Two days ago my mom called Jami a "big baby".  Since then Scarlett has started calling Jami "Big Baby"!!!!!!!  Bwahahahahaaa!!!!

This is her new *surprised* face!  She'll yell "ooooooo!" and make this face when something is new or exciting.  The photo with Kandy she was ooo-ing at all the pollen & flower blossom petals blowing down the street.

When Jake and I were driving to some tunes the other day.  Scarlett was singing along as she often does.  So we thought we would play a game... we turned off the music and both hummed a note.  She hummed with us.  Then we sang really high, so she sang really high.  Then we sang really low notes... it took her a few tries but she was able to sing low notes too!  So cute!

Enjoys feeding herself - even if it means more work for me! (this is a bowl of yogurt, cottage cheese, and a little cool whip - a favorite treat!)

When we drive around, I often look back at her rear view baby mirror and catch her playing peek a boo with herself!

Jake came in the office while I was working one evening, he briskly walked over to my side, lowered Scarlett to me and asked "can you check her mouth for rocks?"  !!!  Apparently while playing outside she sampled the gravel at lightning speed!  Good news: there were no rocks or pebbles in her mouth (just a little dirt).

We went and fed the ducks, Scarlett was more interested in eating the bread rather than throwing it at the ducks.  A duck flew right over our head and pooped all over!  We all dived out of the way just in time!!!

These ducks were mean and aggressive.  They would chase each other to steal the bread.  They had no problem coming close to us.  I could've touched them if I wanted to.

We've been going to nursery during Sunday School (they let us take her in there as long as we stay with her and she loves it!)  During the lesson this past Sunday they had each kid say "I Will Obey" when it got to Scarlett I said, "say, I will obey" and she said "obey"!  The nursery leader was so impressed!  Way to be a super student Scarlett!

Toddling!

Scarlett is officially a toddler!  Lately we've been able to get her to take a few steps when she thinks we're holding on to her.  But today she took 8 or so steps on her own.  She would stop every few seconds to regain her balance, smile at herself, then keep going, when she finally got to her destination she stopped and clapped for herself!  So cute!  Unfortunately we weren't able to get her to recreate the moment for the camera.  But we captured a few brave steps on film...

She's been practicing her walking with her strollers.  She got 2 of them for her bday, so we have one on each floor of our home.  We just have to make sure and barricade her in the room so she doesn't go down the stairs!

MBA Graduation: Master Glauser

Jake is now officially a graduate of the BYU MBA Program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jake, Scarlett, Dad Glauser, Dad Seaver, and I all went to the 137th Spring Commencement Exercises on Thursday April 19, 2012.  Elder Dallin H. Oaks spoke to the graduates.  He told the Marriott Center crowd a story that he had never told anyone before.  When he was President of BYU in 1974 they decided to give LeGrand Richards an Honorary Degree: Doctor of Christian Service.  During the ceremony after presenting him with the diploma, Elder Richards opened the diploma to examine it (something Elder Oaks failed to do before hand).  Elder Richards then handed it to Elder Oaks, when he looked at it, it read: Doctor of Christian Science.  Oops!  There is a summary of his address here.  Scarlett spent most of the time outside with Grumple (thanks Dad!)  On our way to the car Jake noticed we were behind the Bro & Sis Fjeldsted!!!

Today we met again in the Marriott Center for the Marriott School of Business's Convocation.  Jake left early to take some big group pictures and I rode with my parents.  I got a text before I left from Jake... apparently he was wearing the wrong tassel.  There were 2 in his kit and he assumed the nicer one was to wear today, but he was wrong.  So I grabbed it and we made intricate plans to meet up before he walked into the Marriott center.  But as luck would have it, as we were pulling into the parking lot, the graduates were all lined up on the sidewalk.  Jake spotted us, waved us over, and we quickly made the exchange!  All that hassle for a tassel!

Jake got to sit on the floor with the graduate degrees, instead of in the yellow seats (those were for the "dirty undies").  I texted him where we were; he told me later he was able to find our group because he spotted the pink in my hair!

The Dean had the students stand if they served a mission (so many! so cool!), he also had different groups stand, including: spouses, parents, and anyone who's ever eaten a J-Dog.

Scarlett spent most of the 2.5 hr ceremony with Grammy walking around outside.  She got many compliments on her darling outfit :-)

We are so grateful for those who came to support Jake.  It wasn't a ton of fun (soooo many names to sit through).  But we really appreciate it!

I love this picture of Jake, Mom G, & Scarlett!  We learned when it comes to graduation gowns, the bigger the hood the better!

We went out to lunch with our folks at La Jolla Groves.  Jake insisted we call him "Master Glauser" hahaha!  The food was good, but man - the service was really lacking!  They took our appetizers before we were finished eating, spilled water on my dad, and knocked Scarlett's carseat (sitting on a highchair) and she almost fell!  Fortunately she slept through the event!

I am so proud of Jacob!  I know that this hasn't been an easy couple of years.  We've had to sacrifice a lot... but Jake really made the most of his education & experience here.  I'm such a lucky lady!

Engineering Represent!

Over the past few years I have had a few opportunities to represent women in engineering.  Woot woot!

Recently I've been featured on the EngineerGirl! website.  It's a site sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering.  It's goal is to get middle school girls excited about a future in engineering.

A few months ago my next door neighbor (who is on the current FSAE team) showed me the new capstone textbook.  My photo is in it!  The funny thing is my quote was meant to be kinda sassy (cause I wrote all my team's reports) and it ended up in the textbook!  I guess they didn't pick up on the sarcasm.

When I was in college, BYU's College of Engineering asked if they could use my picture on a poster.  They had a photo shoot with a photographer and everything!  Once they finished the posters I saw them all over BYU's campus!  One of my friends even said they saw my poster at the LDS Business College in SLC!


One time I was waiting for the elevator in the Crabtree building and was making small talk with an awkward engineering boy (no, not Jake).  He was looking at the poster on the wall and said "I bet these girls aren't even engineers" then he pointed at my picture and said "she doesn't even look like an engineer".  At first I wasn't sure if he was making a weird joke or something (like I said, he was awkward).  But I couldn't tell, so I said "you know that's my picture you're pointing to, right?"  He looked at the photo then back at me.  Then his face turned beet red.  He was so embarrassed!  He had no idea it was me!  Why would he even pick that as a topic of conversation anyway?  Weird dude.  But... in his defense, I was wearing glasses and had dark, curly hair that day.

We're moving to.......

Michigan!

Jake just accepted a job at Ford in Dearborn, Michigan!  He got into the 3 year Program Management rotational program!!!  Then after the program he'll get to pick which Program Management role he wants to be in long-term.

I know what you're thinking... Utah to Connecticut back to Utah now to Michigan?  Wasn't the point of coming back to Provo to avoid the Eastern Time Zone?

Well yes, and no.  We moved to Connecticut right after college and it was so wonderful for our marriage.  But we were really lonely.  We never had both feet firmly planted there.  So we moved back to Provo.  The time we've had back here has been amazing!  I feel like I know the Glauser family so much better and Jake knows the Seaver family.  Our relationships are so much stronger and it was such a blessing to be here with a new baby.

For the record, Jake really did try hard to find a job in Utah.  In fact, he got a few offers here.  But none of them were for jobs that would make him happy and provide opportunities.  The Ford job really is a dream come true for Jake.  It combines engineering, business, and cars!

Coincidentally this will be round 2 for me in Michigan.  During the summer of 2007 I did an internship with Chrysler.  Those were the budding months of our relationship.  Jake came and visited me (and his sister Carolyn, who was also working at Chrysler at the time).  It was during that trip that we said "I love you" the first time.  awwww cute!

AND - I just remembered that I got to visit Detroit in the summer of 2005 for a research trip with BYU (we went to the FSAE competition cause we were just starting the FSAE program at BYU).

Jake will start his new job on June 4.  So we'll by flying out there in a few weeks to look at houses.  We'll try to find one with a great guest bedroom - our door is always open!  Please come visit!  And in between: Skype!

We are sooooo sad to be leaving our family in Utah, but we are looking forward to our next big adventure!

Foreshadowing? 

Storm Front - Part 1

For Scarlett's birthday, Elder Uncle James Seaver sent Scarlett this short story.  You should know, Jimi Lightning is James's Superhero name and Scarlett Thunder is his sidekick.

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far off from here, a young boy awoke with a fright.  Storming winds shook his barnyard abode and rattled him to the bone.  "What could this be?" he wondered.  "I've never seen a storm like this!"

- BOOM! -

Thunder split the warm air and lightning filled the sky!  Just then a deafening crack rent any serenity left to the boy as a fierce dragon slammed through the roof of his barn home.

"Tremble mortals and despair!  Doom has come to this world!" the dragon aspect spoke in a silent-but-powerful hiss.  "Deathwing has come seeking vengeance and I pave his way!"

- BOOM! -

Another black of lightning shot out across the night, but this time it hit the black aspect square in the heart.  Obviously shaken, the dragon staggered as he watched the warrior rise up before him...

I love that James drew himself holding an awesome sword and little baby Scarlett!  :-)
